Question about blown shocks
My shocks were finally done. I had bought a set of shocks off of a 02 Accord in 02 and they were fine. I've kept them for years until a few months ago when I finally had them installed. My car is lowered on Ground Control coilover sleeves. Mechanic is a good friend of my friend's but I'm having an issue. The front left shock is blown as my other mechanic showed me and you could even see fluid leaking.
Would the mechanic who installed them realized it were blown if he was installing it? I would think he'd tell me.
Maybe the shock wasn't blown and he didn't install it?
Is it even possible for a shock to blow over time without being installed?

That's getting pretty old for a stock shock, and if it wasn't seeing normal use I could see the seals degrading to the point of leakage. If its in a lower than OEM suspension I could see this exacerbating that issue.
We are talking about stock Accord shocks, right?

Also acura had an info letter about this issue a while ago. Over time the shock itself degrades. It starts flaking and then when the shock is fully extended the flakes get caught in the valve/channels in the shock that allow the fluid to go up and down. When it's blocked the fluid has no-where to go and bad seals lead to leaking OR you get a really bad 4x4 look...

Yeah, not sure if the car you got them off of was slammed but stock shocks are usually designed to operate with a certain amount of travel.... when you get springs that give you a huge drop or put them in sleeves to lower the car, you're not allowing them to work the way they were designed.
Some stock shocks work fine for a while.... but it's impossible for them to last longer on a lowered car vs. on a stock-height car

The above about shocks degrading over time is probably what happened. I guess you can't hold on to anything too long. FYI, I was lowered on stock shocks for 8 years. The shocks were getting noticeable after 6 years.
