Qucik Insurance Question
It depends on your insurance company & history.
Call them & ask.
Usually if it wasn't from an accident then your rates should not change. However they may have a cap $ cost or a max number of claims you can use.
I know with glass if I had a window break & needed to replace it, my rates won't go up for that.

i've been with Travelers insurance for probably 2-3 years now.
they got one "freebie" meaning you can have one "at fault" accident or ticket which your cited and your prem. won't go up. now you'll have to drive safe for 3 years.(until when the ticket or accident "falls off" your record)
when i hit a deer did about 5 grand damage to my ride. i was flipping out cause i had a speeding ticket(59 in a 45) plus a deer strike. i thought my prem. would go up. but it didn't due to #1. i wasn't cited in the deer strike accident my agent said #2. they ate the full cost of the deer strike accident. i was suppose to pay the body shop i went to 100 bucks. but since i'm buds with them they said "forget about it"
now record completely clean the "59 in a 45" dropped off.

If you've had no other claims and have been with the same insurance company for at least a few years you should be fine. Your rate only goes up when you become a bigger risk or your loss ratio is about to enter the red.

Might be simpler to just pay out of pocket based on your deductible.
It's up to the underwriter of the company. They have very strict and specific statistical tools to be able to tell you that. It depends on the cost of the accident, your deductible, how many claims you've had in the past, your income, your coverage, etc.

In California, comprehensive claims will not increase your rates for most major insurance companies.
Based on your situation, you actually hit something while you were driving and most insurance companies in CA would treat it as a collision. In fact it would be an at-fault collision since you hit the branch, if you were to claim it
You need to prove that the brand did not hit you, but then again if the branch did hit you as a result of falling off a tree, it would be considered an act of god and i believe most insurance company will not cover that. Look at your policy
If you were hit by a deer, cow, donkey, giant raccoon, or any other huge wild animal you are covered under comprehensive. Again, you hit a branch that you could've avoided while you were driving and it would be treated as a collision in CA if you were to repair it through your insurance company. Really depends on your insurance company....

To avoid all the headaches, you should report the claim in this manner:
You were driving in the rain and a truck (in front of you) of unknown make and model ran over a branch and sent the branch flying towards your bumper causing the bumper to break.... somehting to that extent. You should get around all the hassles of coverage this way and should be able to claim this as a comprehensive claim.

How about i just say a raccoon had a meeting with my front bumper.
The branch was unavoidable, it did fall right as i drove over it. We had some bad storms last week. It was windy as hell!
