Pulled over in Suffolk, NY...defense pointers or help?
I got pulled over on sunrise hwy this morning going to work. I was late, I was going faster than I should have in the left lane. Didn't see the cop, had my radar on. No idea how he got me. He pulled me over after Locust Ave which runs over sunrise, I'm guessing he was up there with his radar/laser gun.
He gets on my ass and I slow down and attempt to the right to get over. Once I get over he comes to my window, tells me I was doing 82 in a 55 and asks for my license. He walks to the front of the car as I'm getting it out of my wallet and mentions that my overlays on my headlights are illegal. Comes back, takes my license and goes back to his car. I didn't have time to mutter two words through the whole ordeal.
Ticket says "speed over state limit" checked box for "speeding mph in a" written in "55" more text "mph zone" then below it in the clear area it says"82"
Does not describe the violation in any other way.
I was going with traffic. Even when I got into the middle lane I still had to do 70ish to maintain speed with traffic.
I asked the officer why I was singled out when the pace of traffic was clearly above the speed limit and he stated "where does it stop, if I pull over the guy doing 5 over he'll say some one else was going faster. If I pull over the guy going 10 over he'll say you were going faster."
Whats my best defense? Does any one know the easiest way to access calibration and testing records for the 5th precincts radar/laser guns? Any help is much appreciated!

what i'm about to say is considered MILD compared to what everyone else will probably say, so here it is....are you fucking retarded? pay the ticket...you seroiusly want to access the 5th's calibration records of their radar guns b/c you were doing 80 "ish" on sunrise? i lived on Long Island my whole life, sunrise highway has way too much traffic and other obstacles to be driving like that...also sounds like he gave you a break for not nit picking everything else he could've ticketed you for, ie overlays, tint if you got it...
you're best defense is your wisest offense...learn when to push your car like that

They can pick anyone out if they so choose, doesn't matter if you were going with the flow of traffic. You were doing over the limit, nuff said. You will lose if you try to fight it, so just pay it and be done with it.

Pay the ticket and move on. Or go to court and try to have it reduced. Do whatever you like. If you're driving that fast, then you should expect to eventually be pulled over.
IMO, chances are someone was going faster than you. It doesn't change the fact that you were going 82 in a 55. That's 27 mph over the limit. It doesn't matter that the next guy was 30 over. It was your bad luck that you got caught. In my experience, the "He was doing it too" arguement never works out.
Good luck. And SLOW down next time. Or be prepared to pay more retarded fines.

Yes I was speeding. As was everyone else on the highway. I was maintaining my speed with everyone in the left lane. I understand this does not make it right. I am aware I am a moron/retard whatever one might choose to call it. I was singled out...young guy going to work in a sharp car. 3G TL's look fast standing still.
I am trying to avoid getting the 6 points on my license. Thats all. I can live with paying fines.
Any other constructive criticism is still appreciated!

I recommend you not to come back to this thread and slow down from now on.
What the hell is wrong with people always coming up with their ticket stories? You broke the law, then pay the shit. Just be glad you can simply pay the fine and get out of it.

In NY you cannot go to Court and expect the fine to be reduced, unfortunately they aren't very forgiving. If you try to fight the ticket they'll just get annoyed and ask you to pay an additional fee to the Court.
The only way I see you getting out of this was to say that the officer's radar/laser was not calibrated and that you were going at a reasonable speed as evidenced by the fact you were following or going with the flow of traffic, otherwise you're short of luck.

Send in the ticket pleading "not guilty" and check off the box requesting a "written deposition". The cop has a certain amount of time to file a deposition (report detailing what happened/he did), and if he doesn't do it within a certain period of time from receiving the request, the ticket gets dismissed for the most part.
That's big points, at least 6. I would also get a lawyer if you can. Even if you don't get a lawyer, most of the time they plea bargain with you and lower the points or do something to lighten the damage to your wallet and/or your record
Oh, and SLOW DOWN! I know how the nassau cops can be, even without me living there, I work on LI and commute up and down Sunrise Highway all day long...IMO, next to NJ cops, most nassau/suffol cops seem to always have something up their ass, like they are trying to show just how badass they can be. It sucks, but that's life. Oh well...
Good luck!
