Problem Passing Texas Vehicle Inspection with Intake?

Has anyone been told that their car won't pass inspection with a cold air intake in Texas?

They passed more strict emmissions regulations here in Austin recently and I was told by the inspector that my car won't pass without the stock intake.

What gives? It's not like I punched out the cat or something.

There's no way they should fail you for your CAI. I have an Texas safety inspector license (No, I can't inspect your car. I'm no longer employed by a dealer so I have no center to ID for and only the dealer has access to the stickers) and there's nothing that says a CAI fails a car. On your car, the updated regs state that you have to have your gas cap checked (because it effects your emissions) and hook up the PGM tester to validate that your car has no CEL fault codes that are related to emissions. These are the only things that they do that are different from the usual checks performed for a safety inspection.

In other words, go get your inspection done. Just make sure you have a catalytic converter, 2/32" of tire tread, all your lights work, your headlights are 22" from the surface, you have no CEL right now, you have a copy of your current insurance card, and your parking brake works. That's pretty much the rundown on a state inspection.

Isn't the AEM Carb certified? If it is, just have AEM send you are carb certificate for your intake.

No way they can fail you. Jeez if NJ and CA cars can have intakes, can't imagine why TX can't.

In NY with the new emissions testing a car is not suppose to pass if it has ANY form of modified emmisions control devices including a CAI. If the car is not a POS and its a CARB certified intake I don't give people a hard time.
