Premium Gas Prices
Premium Gas Prices
For years the price difference between regular and premium gas has been 20 cents.
But when gas prices started to drop a few weeks ago, I started noticing stations with a 26 cent price difference. First it was QuikTrip, then Shell. Some other stations have followed, only to drop it back to 20 cents after a couple of days.
It's a 30% increase in the price difference that hasn't changed in years.
I did a quick Google and nobody seems to be talking about it, or even noticed.
Is this just local to Fort Worth, or is it national?

The 20 cent difference is still true here for the most part. I imagine that with prices changine frequently and regular gas outselling the other two grades there's going to be a bit of a jumble.
I have a long commute, so I pass by plenty of stations. I know where the cheap gas is - and they still have the 20 cent difference.

I've seen a couple of stations that have some pretty f'd up prices ranges
Example:
Regular $2.369
Mid: $2.549
Premium: $2.899

Most in my area have a 10 cent difference between regular and Mid, and a 16 cent difference between Mid and Premium.
There is only one in my area that has 10 cent difference between all grades and this is the only one I fill up at since its usually the lowest and since I usually fill up on my way to or from work I always pass that station so I never go out of my way to save 6 cents/gallon.

The differences tend to compress when prices go higher because then demand for premium gas collapses. I've been putting in 89 in my Maxima recently, which is fine for the type of driving I do. Only once in awhile do I get a little knock retard / lagging.
