Potholes are not my friend :/

Well pot holes are not really my friends at the moment with the 760. A few months ago I bent a wheel on the daily roads I traverse (garbage tires to blame) and swapped out the full size spare for the bent one.

Well after all of this I have a another bent wheel and some have some curb rash thanks to a very nice parking attendant.

I called up a local wheel repair company and their rate to fix stuff is 1/3rd the list price of the wheel to fix anything and everything wrong with it. Sadly for me that comes out to more than 1K for the factory wheels. Then there is the issue with my rear tires, they are almost worn down so that is influencing my next choice a bit.

Should I go with a used set of factory wheels with tires (if I can find a good price):

Or a Factory Set of 21's that come with my car (chrome or silver):

Or another Factory Set for the newer 7 (Gunmetal):

Or screw it and go aftermarket with something like these two:

DPE SP-SC16 in 22's or 21's (in brushed/polished/stainless):

Or The Savnini SV-25C: (in brushed/polished/stainless)

I can get new tires for 1000 installed
The Factory wheels with tires (70% Tread) I can get for around 1K
The Factory 21's (5 Spoke) I can get for around 2500 with new tires
The Factory 21's (Mesh) I can get for around 3000 with new tires
The DPE's are 1675 for 1 wheel +1250 for tires -> 8000 with new tires
The Savinis are 1375 for 1 wheel + 1250 for tires -> 7000 with new tires

I realize I'm all over the place right now and I feel that the savini's and DPE's are a quite bit expensive for what they are, but I do like a certain style of wheel; I don't like huge chrome wheels nor do I like wheels that love to show of the 7's brakes so much to the point where the spokes are paper thin.

But what would you do?

DPE or ADV1s.
You can get a better deal on DPE wheels if you negotiate and make shops compete. Trust me. A lot cheaper.

Im getting some ADV1s deep concave soon.

I'm feeling the factory 21's mesh AND its very affordable compared to DPE or savini

but I do love the look of the DPE.... (not the price tag)

I love the gunmetal factory wheels BUT since the 760 isn't your daily driver, I say go aftermarket.

I would go oem mesh. If your bending the smaller oem wheels, won't bigger ones bend even easier?

The first wheel was bent because of a bad tire choice, the second bend was due to a minor incident with a friend and a speed bump that he didn't see. Needless to say he won't be sitting behind the wheel again. Plus the factory rims are the strongest in the world, a member on bimmerfest bent all 4 of his and didn't bend a single 21 inch wheel that he got on the same roads.

Those are the sport 20's style 149! The 5 spokes are style 128 and the mesh are the 312!

Here are the 312's on the new 7:

The 312 Mesh can be only custom done in silver for the 7 and do not come stock in silver, just that Ferric Grey Color. I guess it'll hide brake dust better!

Aftermarket, not mesh. Second option would be silver factory 21's (five spokes).

I vote for DPE in a 22. I would stay away from 21s as you limit your tire selection a bit.

OEM 312's in gunmetal.

My coworker has those 128's on his 760LI and he has bent two of them in the past year. He lives in DC and those roads have tore up his tires/wheels.

Question: if you are having issues with potholes with OEM rims ... what's gonna happen if you go aftermarket?

To me, rims (well, cars in general) are a money pit. I suppose if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, then go for it. I'd say you fix what you have and buy better tires. Pocket the difference as your 'rainy day' fund since you never know when you'll need $$$ for something more important.

My

Good luck with whatever you decide.

PS My advanced age has made me *far* too pragmatic. ...

I like the DPE the best.

Don't most people just replace their cars when this kind of stuff happens.

The OEM wheels are cast wheels that are very soft, and these factory wheels also have lips on them which makes it a bit worse. As I said before, one wheel was bent due to a bad tire and the other was due to an incident with a friend.

Well I can get a REALLY GOOD DEAL on the Mesh 21's off the new 7 series but have a question for the wheel gurus here!

The E66 (my 7) uses these wheels

19x9 24+ offset
19x10 24+ offset

The wheels I'm looking at are

21x 8.5 +25 offset
21x10 +41 offset

according to the parts dept @ BMW, the new F01 wheels will hit the struts in the rear because the offset is pushing in the wheel so much. If I put on a 20-25mm spacer do you think that'll work or will I need something a bit more to get a better stance? Also is it recommended to go that high with spacers?

Also the 760 comes stock with 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 vs. the 750's. Will going with a narrower rim, but a larger tire (since 21's come in 255 and 285/295 for the rears) still look good or will it look odd?

My current tires are 245/45/19 and 275/40/19

I like the silver OEM 21" 5 spokes. Or the current ones. The aftermarket wheels would take away from the high-end luxury look of the car.

Front will be fine, rear can easily take (and needs) 20mm spacers. Going with a 25mm will push the wheel out another quarter inch. I'm sure the car can take it, but not sure if you'll notice it. Personal preference on that one.

255's on x8.5 and 285/295's on x10 will look good.

If you need that big of a spacer I say get custom ordered DPE and don't run any spacer.

The DPE's are 1675 a piece plus tires, I can probably get those mesh 21's from BMW for around 2k With tires!!!

Given those 2 choices I would admire how nice the DPE's would look as I get the mesh 21's installed on my car. Just don't know if I can justify spending an extra $6000.

Personally I like the mesh in silver, but I am not a fan of black or gun metal wheels.

well after some waiting it looks like I can get the set for around 1250 for the 4 21 inch BMW mesh wheels and tires. But I'm still going to need a spacer and the necessary spacers on the rear of the car will cost about 200 dollars. Yay or nay?

For clarification, ALL 4 are going to be 1250 with tires:
Here are the 312's on the new 7:

Its a great deal but personally it doesn't do it for me unless basically its temporary till you save for a set of DPE. That car just needs more concave and not a wheel that looks flat considering the amount of concave and lip you can run on that car.

I'm going to wait until DPE comes a bit off their high horse and takes down the price. 8K for wheels and tires is a bit to much, I mean if it was like 1250 a wheel I'd consider it in the future.

As far as lips go, I dont' like them that much, Concave is the way to go! In the mean time I think I'm going to go with the Style 312's
