Possibly Trading In The CL

1999 3.0 CL

Ok, here is the deal. My car has 126,000 miles on it, with original tranny. I did some work on it, and think I might have delayed problems or replacement, but that still lingers over my head. I went to the Honda dealer today and looked at a 2005 Civic. After some talking we came to a number. It would be $25 more per month on payment, with a 60 month note. I still owe 2 more years payment with the CL. I also called my insurance and it would go up $35 a month, with a total of $60 more per month. If I keep the CL it will soon need new rotors and an alignment, and other things that come with a high mileage car. Good thing is that my rims will fit the new car so I won't want to buy new ones. Another good thing is the gas mileage. I get about 25mpg with the CL, and would get about 37-40 range with the Civic. I am just afraid that if/when the tranny goes out I will need $3500, and that would put me in a world of hurt. So, I ask your opinion, dear fellow CL'ers. Do I wait out the tranny, or do I trade her in for the Civic?

I am not a big fan of the current Civic, so if those are your only choices I might stick with the CL.

What is your budget?

Wait, WAIT for the 2006 Civic if you can!! It should have at minimum 140hp, probably more, and it should look better.

I'm in you same situation. Still have 2 years left on the note for my 97. Car payment + insurance = 400/mo for a 8 year old car Trying to get rid of mine as we speak and buy something used outright so I dont have a car payment. Its a matter of choice on your part. Do you want a new car and another 5 year payment plan? Or do you sell the CL, take whatever money you have left and buy a used car until you save up more money for a new one.

Curious, but why not somthing else. Is buying slightly used out of the question?

I was about to say the same. Why a new Civic. Don't get his by depreciation. Regardless dump the CL due to tranny problems.

However, I think his reason cited were fuel economy. The Civic is hard to beat in that class. Depreciation is VERY low on Civics. They are always too expensive to justify buying used (at least here). The Corolla LE is another good option. Or a 2003 Accord EX 5-speed manual (similar price to a new civic, and alright gas mileage).

I know. this is what I am trying to do now, but choosing a reliable car for around 2k that I wont have to dump money into is kinda hard.

dont get a civic.....look at a 2003-2004 accord instead....it will be about the same price and whole lot pimper

buying a used car thats 1 or 2 years old is smarter in my opinion....id rather settle for a used higher end car than a new chick car

the 1.7L on the civic really isn't that bad...

plus, u can redline it all u want, and still get 35 MPG~ which is really nice...

i had mine for about 3 years, and loved it, and had no problems at all..

i suggest you stop by www.7thgencivic.com ..its a really good forum to go on if you have a 7th gen..^^

hope it helps~

oh..and another thing, civics have crazy resale value.

when i traded in my stock civic, it had 45,000 miles on it, bald tires, was missing a hubcap, but i still managed to get $11,500 for it as a trade in~

i paid $15,500 when i got it new~

so i say that it has a excelent resale value to it..

Check out the Mazda 3 hatch. Have heard nothing but good things about it. Better than the civic IMO.

03 is the first year of that generation Accord. Sometimes first year of a gen. can bring problems.

That's right...but if it's used, they should be apparent already. Usually a vehicle has stabilized once it's been driven 20 000 or so, and all the problems rear their heads.

kick in a few more bucks and get a LX Accord 4 popper. Grant it your mileage will go down but on like Interstate ramps(if their short) you gotta "mat it" to get on to the Interstate.

That 160hp feels more than sufficient to get that thing moving, especially in manual configuration. Avoid the DX like the plague though. The LX is only marginally more money, but comes MUCH better equipped. I test drove it and I was very pleased.
