I have a neighbor across the street with a Touareg and he loves it. Other than an airbag light going off, he's had a good experience with it.

I know it's not a Cayenne but FWIW, I thought it might help.

I don't have experience owning it, but drives really nice

And from above - I drove a Touareg V10 turbo diesel - absolutely amazing vehicle.

nice vehicles, but make sure it has metal cooling sleeves not the plastic ones. If it's new enough it may have the metal ones.

Seattle Cl-S owns one. Search the forum for "Cayenne GTS" or just PM him.

My brother has a 2004 Cayenne Turbo, he's the 2nd owner. Has had a couple minor issues but overall he's very happy with his Cayenne. It's a blast to drive.

The GTS is unique and slots nicely between the Cayenne S and Turbo. Keep in mind that the 2011 Cayenne is right around the corner and the performance and aesthetic changes are not inconsequential. If you're not in a rush, I would wait for the new model. The Turbo and GTS are typically released 1 year or more after the launch of the new base model, at least for 911s so if you're eager for the GTS than you should be able to negotiate a relatively decent deal on the current model with the facelift this year.

I'm curious why you are willing to spend $$ for the GTS over the Cayenne S. Do you need the performance upgrade? I ask this because the only Cayenne Turbos driven in my neighborhood are by firing MILFs

Good thread, as I've been curious about the Cayenne as well. The 2011 Cayenne seems very well designed IMHO, esp the hybrid version.

How does the Cayenne drive? How is it as a daily driver? Does it drive like a 911?

The GTS is supposed to offer the most performance oriented experience of the 4 Cayenne models but it's still a SUV. A heavy, heavy SUV. The driving experience is not close to a 911 IMO and I've driven the Cayenne albeit not the GTS.

Important distinguishing features features of the GTS are 20+ HP compared to the S, 21 inch rims, a 20 mm ride height drop compared to the Turbo and most importantly for moi, 3 pedals with 6-speed manual transmission. There's also bolstered Alcantara sports seats and some interior trim dressups.

I helped my brother drive his Cayenne Turbo back from Miami recently. For a 2.5 ton vehicle the Cayenne Turbo drives like it weights alot less. According to my brother it's a decent daily driver and he lives in Manhattan so it works great with NYC lousy streets and roads. Does it it drive like a 911, no but at the same time it does not drive like a SUV either.

My brother tried to get the Porsche dealer to replace his plastic tubes with metal, but there is no recall so unless they're leaking they will not replace.

Never understood Porsche's fascination with plastic coolant piece's, they had similar problems on the 928 radiator with the plastic side tank pieces failing with the aluminum tube/O-ring design

yeah, PAG seems to really ignore some issues for some reason.

BMW and Mercedes have this disease as well. It may be related to EU standards in regards to recycle-ability of vehicle parts.

90's era E-class MB's have engine wire harnesses that the insulation will slowly disintegrate due to meeting those requirements.

plastic weighs less and has less thermal conductive properties

That as well as cost, tooling for injection molded plastic is cheaper as well as the cost of the material (ABS plastic) is cheaper than metal.

Similar reason Chrysler kinda invented/evolved the plastic intake manifold two decades ago. Nowadays Porsche, BMW, and others use them as well. Light weight, low thermal conduction, cheap...
