the poor man's bra...

..

Adrienne is making me drive up to Santa Clara this weekend (600 miles each way) and I couldn't bare the thought of trashing a week old paintjob

I'd do the whole hood and fenders too, just as a precaution.

Hood and fenders aren't a fresh repaint, the hoods already pretty trashed from a few previous road trips. Leaving it open to the elements will give me an excuse to repaint it later

Looks like a concept vehicle Holden is testing in the US. You might as well add zebra stripes and tape elsewhere

looks like he is heading out to autoX. A lot of autoX ppl do that to prevent paint chip when hitting a cone, and it does protect your paint extremely well..

Wait I have question, Dont you have to wait a month for the paint to breath before you put something on it? That is what my body shop said after I told them I wanted to put on a clear bra on the freshly painted bumper.

You'd want a week old paint job exposed to 1200 miles of rocks?

The paint isn't fully cured yet so its more prone to rock chips.

wow, I thought I was the only one who tried this. A week after I got my body kit installed (5 or so years ago), my parents decide they want to drive to Michigan from NY. I taped up the entire body kit, mirrors, etc with some clear tape. This was the biggest mistake I made. It was so hard to take off. Everytime I pulled the tape off, it left behind the glue from the tape which was a b**ch to take off. It took me at least 20 hours in total to get all the tape off and I probably did more damage to it by rubbing it with wax/goo gone/etc than I would have if I had just driving without taping it up.

The funny thing was everytime someone passed us on the highway, they looked at the car, then looked at me like I was crazy (I guess I was :-)).

Anyway, hopefully, you used the right type of tape.

you used packaging tape, that was your problem. I do this probably 12 times a year or so (to and from about 6 shows) with either 3M blue painters tape (home brand) or 3M green Painters tape which is the extended stay high temp painters tape, you can leave it on for 14 days with no residue.

Never had more than a smaller 1 inch by 1 inch square of residue left and its normally right over the engine.

isn't that asking for a fix it ticket? i would only leave the front turning signals exposed, and obviously drive during the day only.

never gotten a ticket yet and have passed numerous cops. i have made atleast 30-40 trips like that now. yes I only travel like that during the day. I there is any chance that I could possibly be delayed into arriving after dark I tape the car leaving the lights exposed and then tape them separately so that when it gets dark I can just remove that portion.

I'm going to be driving my car to Charlotte and Colorado (where I'm moving).

How long does it take to do that? A couple of hours? Never seen it done but it's very clever.

new possiblity, why not tape up the car and paint over hte tape. When you get bored of ti (3-4 days or so) peel it off exposing your orignal factory paint. Pretty stupid, but crazy enough it just might work.

Stupid is correct

You would be wasting soo much money it wouldn't be funny
It would look horrible since it wouldn't be smooth
If you miss taping one little spot you have now put paint on to your nice paint job

Didn't Audi make the S4 in that light blue?

Is this a joke?

Am I too slow to get it?
