Please Explain This Ridiculous High Priced Cabin Filter Replacement

I just don't get it. Why the hell is this dealership charging so damn much when this job is easier than changing motor oil? I got this in an email and had to jump closer to the screen to see if I'm seeing it right. I just don't get it. I know dealership needs to make money, but really? What kind of a freakin coupon is this?

This dealership has lost my business.

^ it's not hard at all. Most cars are fairly simple. With that said someone will buy it with that coupon thinking it's cheap. Not your or I, but someone will.

Why would you stop using them though? I've seen some ridiculous prices from dealers, but I'll still buy parts from them.

OP must be having a hard day.

Come on now, be serious.

Perhaps you need to crack open a beer and relax.
Plenty of other things in this world to get bent about.

I just feel like they're not honest. I think I posted this before, but they offered the same coupon service for $89.95. For them to bump this stupid easy service up to $119.95 feels like an insult. I don't know. It's just me I guess.

19.95 for the filter & 100 for a hour of labor. From a dealer...what don't you comprehend?

Nope. Not having a hard day. I just been going to this dealership for oil changes a lot. They've always give me pretty high priced service (never opt for any of it) but this one is going too far.

What I don't get is they offered me a coupon for an oil change for $39.95. An oil change takes longer and is more labor intensive. This is where my gear gets grind.

I think it was way easier to change the oil on my TL than a cabin air filter. For a dealership to change oil, it's a joke, just drive the car on the ramp, drain, filter, new oil, done. For the cabin filter you had to take out 8 screws and a bunch of clips and take off the glove box. Then replace it, and put all that shit back together making sure glove box aligns perfectly. Takes longer to do that than it does to change oil for sure.

I am a "sucker" for high priced dealership maintenance. It does make me feel better about my car and that the maintenance or repair is actually done, and not pencil whipped. The high price also comes with the expectation that if things go wrong that I don't have to waste my (more valuable) time pleading for free rework.

If you have a good relationship with your service writer he/she may be able to give you a little bit of a break on the cost. At least ask them why, exactly the cost is so high. They will more than likely explain the labor involved.

You can buy a cabin filter and change it yourself as well. It's not a dirty job, but it might be a PITB.

Definitely do it yourself. One of the easiest ways to save money on a car. Fluid changes, depending on my mood, I'll leave to someone else.

I'm honestly not that stressed over it. I probably expressed it that way but I'm not trippin'. If I was, I wouldn't have cropped out the name of the dealership and give them an online bad rep

Dang it's that hard on a TL? It's stupid easy on a TSX. If you time me, I think I could have the motivation to change it out in less than 30 seconds. There are no screws. Just pop tabs, pull, and replace.

I only go to them for oil changes. I provide my own oil and filter and they charge me $15 for labor. If it wasn't for the hookup from the salesman that sold me the TSX, they would have charge me $30 just for labor. The convenience of them changing my oil and recycling the old oil beats the inconvenience of changing it myself. But I think I'm going to start doing it myself.

Are you sure there isn't a pass through option? The majority of new Hondas have a way to do it without taking off screws. It's literally a 5 min job.

OP, I got a coupon from my local stealer the other day, and they want $225 for the cabin and engine filter. The real kicker is they only want $70 for 4 wheel alignment.

Well its obvious - its from Acura stealership - I remember back when I went to Acura and asked for Acura ATF - wants to charge me 12 per bottle . Went to Honda dealership - same ATF - different color of the bottle label -- $6 each but only if I purchase a dozen.

Was this a 2G or 3G? On my Accord, you just had to squeeze the sides of the glove box and drop it down, and the cabin filter tray is right there. Probably less than one minute if you wanted to do it, and no tools needed.

Exact same process for the TSX.

1 minute job for $119.95. Makes sense.

It seems like you're trying to put logic and reason into this, and we all know that's not how dealerships think.
