I paid $6000.00 to move into a 2004 TL .. my TL-S was worth $18,000 even. The new TL is $33,000. All I had to pay was $6000.00. Honda lost, I won.

peter,
how does the car perform compared to your previously modded tls? i would think the tls was better power wise.

The $6000.00 for was FOR THE TL... for those who don't know, i sued Honda/Acura to get out of my TL-S (three tranny failures). I was successful after two months of arbitration, and the final agreement was I give them my $18,000 TL-S w/ 38K miles, and I get a brand new '04TL for $6000.00. I paid $1500.00 for my A-spec's w/ the Kumho tires. I'm selling the stock ones (probably get $700-800 for 'em w/ the tires on them). I sold all my mods for $1000.00.

Power:

Haven't had a chance to open up the new TL yet. I want this one to last (HA! that's what i said about my TL-s before the first tranny died!) so I'm gunna wait 'till 500 miles till i see what the real differences b/w/ this car and the TL-S are.

First impressions: The off the line power is better in the TL-S .. I do not like the ECT .. i prefer a real link b/w the accelerator and the throttle body -- i have the ECT (electronic controlled throttle) in the Maxima, and it's very UNresponsive. It's better, and seemingly more "intelligent" in the '04TL .. but still kinda weird.

I think I'll miss my modded power out of the TL-S... Also, this new TL is very very quiet .. Lexus like... however it has a nice start-up exhaust note that the TL-S didn't have. Kinda throaty like the Comptech Exhaust kit. The TL-S's aggressive growl in VTEC is very awesome, I dont' think this TL has that -- though I haven't been past 5000rpms.

The interior is .. just amazing. The ELS sound system is so cool -- probably one of the best stock systems I've every heard -- blows the Type S's sound system out of the water hands down. The 5.1 DVD audio is cool.

The SS shifting is just as quick/slow (however you wanna look at it) as the TLS .. absolutely no differences IMHO. The 18's really helped this car turn tighter in turns w/o sacrificing ride quality at all. This car handles a HELLA better than the TL-S, I think .. in turns and on the highway. Much more composed.

Guess what -- i have rattles, creaks, etc. Acura quality has improved, but not that much. Oh well

Nice! Love the look of the car.

I'd personally leave the front plate on, otherwise you get that lame ACURA logo on the front of the car. At least the plate serves a purpose, and it doesn't get in the way of the "point" of the bumper like it does on the TL-S.

I had the same feeling that you did about the new TL when I test drove it. I gunned it at a red light though ... The car was really really smooth and quiet though. I wouldn't have guessed that I gunned it from 0-80mph, but I did!

The car definitely doesn't have the nice VTEC sound that the TL-S has...

But for a luxurious highway cruiser it definitely gets high marks. I love the interior too!!! Congrats on the new car!

Synth -- thanks man -- did you ever decide to swap Z for M3 w/ that dude from the Z forum? My TL-S was a real Piece of @#$@ .. but hella fun to drive. It was more .. i dunno... purebred for fun driving .. this TL is less so, but still a nice cruiser, as LiqiCe mentioned.

Sxsublime -- thanks bro .. i thought the silver w/ the Aspec would look pretty tight. I'm taking MUCH better hi-res shots of it this weekend for y'all to get a better look at it.

LiQiCe .. totally agreed man .. i hope the 'charger comes out for this car.. i'd be all over that.

Goldmember .. it's as good as yours! Thanks for the props bro.

Welcome to the club. My 03 Accord has plenty of creaks and rattles, especially in the head liner...Thanks Honda.

Any way...you have a tight ride. It looks good with those rims.

Did you pay an attorney for this? 2 months of arbitration with an attorney costs some cash

I've seen a few around here as well. Love it. Looks so mean from the front w/ the HID's.

How did you arrive at 290 estimated HP?? I didn't see engine mods listed anywhere.

I bought the auto b/c I still drive daily in heavy city traffic -- i guarantee you Acura fixed all automatic tranny problems for the next few generations of the TL -- it was INCUMBENT upon them to do so!!

The 290hp was my estimated pwr outta my modded TL-S.. haven't gotten around to changing the spec to stock '04 specs.

Jesal -- i hear your Audi is just a rebadged Jetta (j/k) yeah, well, ya gotta cut corners SOMEWHERE to offer so much car for $33,000

No lawyers .. just me, my law student friend, and the BBB ... and a helluva lotta arguing over the phone and blank threats and bluffs.

Vin .. only 136 miles on the ODO .. waiting anxiously for 500 so I can let her rip ... don't feel like I'm boggin as bad as the Maxima...

With the Drive by Wire Throttle, you shouldn't have any problems with the tranny cuz the computer can let off the throttle before it shifts to reduce stress on the tranny versus the TL-S which doesn't have the drive by wire system.
So no worries!!!
