Phil Patton: Toyota/Lexus Styling The Worst

Neighbor just got an 11'. Nothing too special about the exterior. Not ugly but it doesn't blow me away. The interior on the other hand was very impressive. No cheapness to be seen anywhere and everything felt and looked great. Especially the gauge cluster. I was somewhat surprised by all the electronic gizmo's and screen they stuck in there.

I would agree with that general comparison between Japanese and European, but I really like some of the designs coming from Infiniti(maybe that explains why I recently bought one). I've liked the G series, especially since the latest gen came out in '07. I also think Infiniti's new M series is a great design.

Was your post that necessary, really? This is the closest thing Honda has to a pickup truck, looks wise. I wasn't rating the functionality just looks. Discernment is not a strong suite for you?

yeah, the exterior design isn't far from 1st gen... I'm diggin' the LED lights tho... and those "gizmo's" you speak of would be the Ford "Sync" multimedia system.

If it matters, the Tacoma looks way better than the Ridgeline plus those two are much more comparable than comparing a midsize truck to a fullsize truck.

The new Lexus SUV's are truly some of the ugliest cars out there... I really like the new MDX, and looking at that and then the RX (which admittedly is the best looking of the Lexus SUV's) just makes the Lexus look even worse.

"Phil Patton, a teacher at the School of Visual Arts in NY and automobile-design..."
One can only assume that the man studied art/archetecture/design, and all that goes with these subjects. Therefore it is not unreasonable to assume that he is a bit more qualified than the 'average joe' when it comes to determining what good design is.
