Performance sedan no one knows about...
The 2009 S60 was one of my options last year but I dismissed it because it was okay but not nice nor compelling enough over other cars. The sales guy tried to steer me away from the hi pressure turbo's for some reason and I only drove the low pressure I5 turbo. It was okay but not exciting in any way like the TL-S when you WOT in VTEC range.
Perhaps the hi pressure turbo I5 would be more fun to drive but the rest of the car would still be just "okay". That's Volvo in a nutshell: relatively expensive, safe and "okay".

I saw a 335 and S60R racing right in front of me on the street. I don't know if the 335 driver didn't know how to drive but volvo killed it. And you can't get a 335 for 47k in canada. Maybe a used one but even then they are more then that
I would LOVE an S60R, even for its inconsistencies, I just love how much of a subtle sleeper this car is, and how I almost never see them on the road. How many 335's and TL's have you seen from day to day?
I rest my case
Although the "AWD" sucks balls. Haldex FTL

I really liked the S60R the few times i have seen it on the street.
Not 100% sure this is the S60R, but it is an awesome looking Volvo regardless. Saw it at the Chicago Auto Show last year and the paint job looks amazing. (the quality of the job wasn't too good, but the idea is sexy)

I was talking about $47k USD for 335i. According to Car and Driver, a new S60R that's decently loaded back then was $47k USD.
I knew about this car ever since it came out. I saw a few on the road since then. I have not had the chance to drive one, or any turbo Volvo for that matter.
I think it never caught on for the following reasons.
1) You could have a top of the line BMW 3 Series/ MB C Class for similar or a bit higher price.
2) Volvos are known to be quirky in the electronics repair department.
3) Most people who buy Volvo are looking for a comfy, safe DD....much like Saab, which is also Swedish, expensive and not too popular.

^^^ That S80 is hot. I could definitely drive that!
I remember driving around and seeing some guy in a 04+ Red S40. He thought he was hot shit, and I laughed because it was a Volvo. They do have a catchy look though. I guess that's why none of Volvo's cars every become popular with enthusiasts, they are pictured as what the Grandparents would drive. I think it will take a while before enthusiasts take Volvo seriously, and alot will stay away because of the image, just like so many have done already.

I owned a v70 for 5 years. The inline 5 is a nice motor. You just have to follow the service schedule and it will be a good car.
The biggest issue I had were the brakes. Driving a US spec Volvo in Germany meant being hard on the brakes. The OEM rotors warped quickly. So I switched to Power Slot rotors and EBC pads. Problem solved, with high speed stopping not an issue.
