technically his is still a first gen. its referred to as the facelift. the actual second gen will be the 2015 model. you are correct though the NSX-R was only avaible in japan. his is not a NSX-R but it is dope as hell. too my knowledge his NSX is actually a 1991 model.

I suppose I assumed the facelift was a new generation. Wikipedia says the pre-facelift type-R was sold worldwide, but not the face lifted one. Did he do a headlight retrofit? That is what is throwing me off. If it really is a pre-facelift, could it be a type-R?

The type-r was never sold in the US and and can't be exported over here. His is definitely not a type-r. He just switched to the newer headlight and bumper.
