Our Replacement 07 Camry tranny died AGAIN
Today I get a call, and found out that the Camry is acting up again. This is our replacement camry (late build) that Toyota built for us to replace our first one early build. So I get told its jerking and not driving right. No lights. I told her okay. I took her my TL, and picked up the Camry. Less than 2 blocks from the house, the Camry wouldn't shift then suddenly did a major jerk or two, and the lights came on and beeped.
Tranny lost 2nd gear completely. It was now limp mode and I was headed to the dealer. It would shift from 1st to 3rd. Again, SAME PROBLEM as the original that Toyota claims its only 160 cars. Wrong. The ES350 is also having the problems and still Camrys are having them. We are done with the Camry if not Toyota at all. If Toyota wants to give us a Avalon, we will stay, but if not, we want our money back and go somewhere else. They have taken care of us really well the first go around, but our patience has ended. We are calling lawyers on Monday if Toyota doesn't react fast this time and get us taken care of. It took over a month to just get the paperwork done on the 2nd one.
Toyota reliability has completely went down the tubes IMHO. I dunno what happened to them, but all the recalls lately, and now these issues its just not my cup of tea anymore.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had issues out there still. I am very sure you guys have. But this is our 2nd one that has blown up.
First had 300 miles.
2nd had 1800.
Go figure.
I will try and keep everyone informed. Looks like Honda wasn't the only one with tranny problems. At least Hondas lasted more than 2k of miles when they had the problem.

buy another TL or a TSX. THis is a sign my friend.... Remember the MDX and the 2nd gen TL's lasted about 50k when the trannys started acting up.
BTW, you might be able to declare lemon law

pimpin-tl: don't be too quick to judge on toyota. Yes, the car is acting up, but it looks like they've been civil about it, and instead of just repairing your old tranny, they gave you a brand spanking new Camry - more than we can say for Acura.
Give 'em a chance to make things right, before you go calling a lawyer. That is unless you really just don't like the Camry and want to get rid of it.

She doesn't like the Camry at all now that two have failed with the same issues on the same person. She isn't alone either. Tons of people are having the failures as well. She is not done with Toyota, but she is done with the Camry. If they want to give her a Avalon, sure. But if not, Toyota has no other car they can offer so she would want a refund.

As I'm sure you know, Toyota is having a lot of problems with their new gen Camry's. Two of my friends bought them the week they came out and BOTH had transmission failure!!!!
One of them switched to an Acura TSX and the other one found a Camry that hasn't given him problems yet *crosses fingers*
Hope everything works out for you!!

Wow!! That really stinks Pimpin!!
I actually considered the new Camry V6 as one of the possible replacements for my Maxima.
Sidenote: I recall when folks were saying the Nissan Murano's CVT would not last long when that first hit the market. Ironically, Nissan's CVT problems wound up being fairly rare thus Nissan expanded it to the new Maxima and upcoming Altima. (So far so go on my Murano) Maybe Toyota would have been better served going the CVT route, if not going with the Avalon's 5AT.

The FWD 6AT (Camry, ES350, etc) is a U660E
The RWD 6AT (IS350, GS, etc) is an A760E.
Yet another reason to not buy a first-year car though, and especially not one of an early build. This is when guinea pig consumers find all the problems that were missed before production, a lot of which is impossible to find or fix in time anyways. When the previous gen Camry came out in 2002 there were a lot of issues on those as well. But by 2003 and especially by 2004 they were pretty much resolved and it went back to the top of the reliability charts. The first-year Avalons also had problems. First year '03 Accords also had a ton of problems and had the lowest initial quality scores of any previous Accord model year. Same for first year Altimas, Maximas, TLs, and pretty much any car you can think of. It's simply a fact that first year cars are always going to have more problems.
Toyota is usually pretty responsive about addressing quality issues, so hopefully they'll take care of all this ASAP. Manufacturers that let issues linger are the ones that see consistently bad quality and never any improvement (domestics, circa 1980's and early 1990's). If trannys are blowing up at low mileage then obviously there's some pretty serious design issues. The good thing about this is that the bigger the problem, the easier it is to find and fix.
Hopefully they'll get this taken care of and then the cars will be reliable after that.

We have the same issue (steering wheel crooked) on our 06 Sienna. I've been too lazy to take it back.
Just a side note about the Toyota trannys. They have some sort of computer overrride that when you let off the gas then get back on it, pauses the shift so to minimize abuse on the tranny. Our Sienna does it and it's mildy annoying.

Honestly, both my neighbors are kicking themselves when they hear what I paid for the Sienna.

On my 01 CL type-s....
I was on transmission #4 when I sold my car at 70k miles.
Mine 1st started acting up at around 6k miles, and barley made it to 12k.
...
And yes, it sucks owning a vehicle with issues. But at least Toyota is doing something about it, when my CL-S died it was a 5 week waiting list for transmissions. And it was a wait only to get another POS transmission with the same design flaws... then finally on my 4th transmission after driving on it for 10k miles they put a sprayer kit in? gee that makes me feel good, i drove 10k miles with a design flaw, which you now stuck a band-aid on? How much wear and tear did I put on it before the sprayer kit was installed...
WTF do you need a lawyer for? Why is that always the answer for 90% of americans. Tell them to buy the car back 1st and see what they say before you go on the war path

Uses turn signals in my
I always thought I could count on Toyota auto trannies too...Parent's had two Lexus's with no problems at all besides a bad 02 sensor.
I'm thinking my next car will be stick.
