Opinions on Quattroporte's?
These things are depreciating like dog shit, but are sofaking hot and still under warranty. I cant think of another 4door thats this hot under 60k. Not to mention my wife feels its more family friendly then my little sti.
Not to mention it sounds beyond exotic! Opinions?

The real problem is the depreciation ... say you buy it and try to sell it in a couple years to avoid those high bills mentioned earlier... unless you have great financing, you might be upside down on it when you want to move onto another car... besides that... if $ is not an issue and your wife likes it... drive and enjoy!
BTW: it sounds sooooo sick on the vid!

Make sure you get the "real" automatic and not the F1 tranny, or make sure you test drive a few first! The other problem is where are you going to get it serviced up here? Sure you have a 5 year/90k mile warranty, but do you want to drive over 2 and a half hours to get anything fixed? Are you cool driving it in winter or will this be another vehicle that just sits for 5 months a year?

wow. serious buyer. going all in on this beauty is a simple decision. like others have mentioned, maintenance and upkeep expeditures are going to be the deciding factor. i suggest that you look into this, as the idea on purchasing this car on performance and looks is a no-brainer

Do it. You know I was torn up between the Q and the A8. The cheap side of me took over. Go drive one, it looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous and drives gorgeous. What more to say. I know you can afford the bills Don't worry the idea is to enjoy it, it shouldn't drop that much anyways. Reliability is also another thing to think about but a relative has one and the only thing that has gone wrong in the last two years is the horn go dead after intensive use and a burnt rear light.

Love the Quattroporte. I too have looked into buying a pre-owned one since the depreciation sucks like you mentioned. Problem is that I am too cheap and can't justify the maintenance and service costs on this thing. Just b/c you can afford to do something doesn't necessarily mean you should...

Nice looking cars and different for the usual slew of 7s, Sclass, and A8s. Not the most up to date tech (09's fix some of that), fun to drive, but sketchy overall quality.
Not the best of dealer networks, mostly out of Ferrari stores.
Maintenance out of warranty speaks for itself.
Later Cambio cars are good, but the auto really suits the Q-Porte which you could only get starting in 07.
There is a kid already that I see riding around in a white one, obviously took advantage of the usual Maserati depreciation.

gotta feel bad for those that took a depreciation hit on these bad boys... sure they could afford it, however.
like mentioned, this car is stellar and a real head turner. undebatable. only thing of concern is maitenance expeditures. there is a reason that you do not see these as often as an S / 7 / A8.
if warranty is promising. GO FOR IT. and post pictures!

Earlier models of the Quattroporte suffered from transmission issues, mainly due to owners treating like an automatic when it really isn't. As a result, quite a few were brought back to the dealer for some major repairs. Setting that aside, it is really quite appealing in person and sounds amazing.

I've heard the same thing about the F1. Supposedly you'll need to change the clutch every 10-15k miles, especially if you are in stop and go traffic. It was designed for the 360 Modena which is a far lighter car than the Quat.

really???
is this due to poor execution or owners lack of experience driving an F1?
I cant imagine the average "Q" owner would have as much driving know-how in operatating an F1 tranny, compared to say, a Modena owner.
