Opinions on Nissan Titan...
Sup fellas/gals. I'm currently shopping for a new car/truck. I've had my eye on the Titans for awhile. They catch my attention every time. I think their beautiful trucks. But, I don't know how reliable they are. So, my question is, does anyone here have a friend that owns one, if so, what are their opinions on the truck. What do they have to say about it? The good, and the bad...
The years I'm looking at were 03-04 models.

If I had to get a pickup, I would get the Titan.

my boss got one, and drives to different properties everyday and he says he wouln't change it for anything, we've been out a couple of times and let me tell you it is really nice the only problem is GAS milles, but other than that the truck is great , i would rather have a titan than one of those new tundras that looks like dodge pickup trucks.

My brother had one as a loaner. Rides pretty good for a truck, but has horrible MPG. I would rather get the Tundra if the issue with the camshafts has been rectified.

To OP, are you looking at extended or regular cab? I like how their back window can roll down.

well since i'm moving to japan in january, i'll have to hold that offer till 2011...but when i get back i'm still buying a domestic....except this time it'll be a diesel. there are things the big three do better, v8's and trucks...just my opinion.

it gets depending on how we're driving it and what we're hauling/towing, and the chip setting. we've got anywhere from 8-20 mpg. that a 4 door 4x4.
8 was with 20,000 lbs behind it. plus we had the chip turned all the way up. but we'd have 15,000 lbs 5th wheel trailer behind it and still smoke the tires .

I rented a Titan because I needed a full size truck to clean out my Pops place. I was amazed at the power and handling, compared to say, and F150.
I haven't driven the new, big engined Tundra, but I would take either over a domestic in a heartbeat.

The new Tundra is totally badass! It makes most other trucks look wimpy (especially the Titan). My cousin just got a brand new Tundra because Toyota was doing 0% financing. I think it's worth a look if you can get the financing.

I can't believe it's been 4 months and I'm still looking for my next car. I'll look into the Tundra Scott. I'm not liking what they have to say about the rear diff's on the Titan on the boards.
Basically I either need a tow truck, or a pos 4 banger daily driver. So I'm going from one extreme to another. But nothing in between. I'm only looking to spend $14,000 for the truck, or $3,000 for the daily driver. I don't want the Lexus RX300 anymore as it's of no use to me.
I leave back to Cali on the 3rd of March, so I'm kind of in a hurry to find something. I came across a Black 05' Titan 4x4 for $14,xxx. Perfect in my range, but so damn scared to buy it. I'll be needing to tow my CL to the tracks every month.

doesn't the titan always come in as one of the least reliable in consumer reports, along w/ the quest, pathfinder armada, and QX56?
I'm not sure what the exact problems were though.

As far as reliability, the only issues that I have read about are: Brakes for the earlier designs, and the differential which can be replaced with a Trutac (?) diff (pretty much a lsd diff) for $1000. Other than that, I hear it's great. First thing I'll get is a diff cooler and put synthetic oil in the diff to withstand higher temps. The diff failures are due to overheating the diff.
Wish me luck

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the current Tundra, but since we're talking used... The Titans pretty cool too... I like the exhaust note.

luvs redheads!
my father owns a titan and it gets more use outta it than anyone on this board if they own one. IT is an 03/04 and has 94k on it already. IT goes offroad daily. The only problems are these...
DONT GET 18" rims....tire selection sucks!
Dents VERY easy because of the sheetmetal thickness
Had an issue with brake noise once.
Rear tailgate latch plastic falling off when first bought
Plus:
Good exhaust note
GREAT sound system(sub)
power!!!
Engine bay is very nice and clean and plenty of room to work on engine if need be!
Only other truck is tundra but the older ones would stand no chance against a titan. My uncle owns an older i-force v8 tundra and it is just as bad on mpg probably.
May the force be with you.

If you can get past the gas mileage then go for it. My dad just recently traded his 05 titan for a new accord based on gas mileage. He had a cai and aftermarket exhaust, and IT WAS A BLAST to drive. It never failed to burn rubber when needed. It was a good solid truck and never had any problems. Go for it...

I live in SA where the Tundra is built. I know many who work in the plant and tell me things.
