Opinions on Mercedes GL450
Thinking about trading in the ML and surprising my wife with an 09 GL 450 4matic for christmas. I drove it tonight and it was nice and smooth. What do you guys think?

I already gave you my opinion. Go ahead and buy it before they give it to someone else.

They definately are not discounting the '09 models that low.....make sure you're getting an '09. The '08's have either a $8,000 or $10,000 (I forget, have to check when i'm at my desk) incentive coming back from MB, and there is a spread of about 4000-4500 between invoice and MSRP, so the discount you're saying makes sense for an '08. The '09's definately don't have any money like that coming back from MB like that...
BTW I delivered an '09 last night, and selling it $1,500 into holdback was a big stretch that I had to push to get done (MSRP was $68,725, I sold it for a little under $63k), Capri Blue with P1, tow hitch, illuminated door sills and a few other extra's....surprise bday present for the dude's wife..delivered the car in a bar that they were celebrating in...interesting night I had last night...

I think the ML is the prettiest midsize luxury SUV out on the market. I can't say the same about the GL.
When you get to that size, I like the look of the Lexus LX more.

MB cracked down on dealers giving customers their employee pricing. I doubt they would do that. Unless you're related to someone, I don't think they will do it
Check this out, this is a bulletin from MB that I received the other day. After reading it, tell me if you think the dealer should give you that pricing:
"The Mercedes Benz USA MVP Program has undergone some important changes to firsther enhance the integrity of the program, effective December 12, 2008
-ONE control number per calendar year is available to each eligible employee or qualified retiree of all Daimler owned subsidiaries in the US and Chrysler Group, including MBUSA and DFS
-Only the family members of the eligible employees of MBUSA and DFS are allowed to participate in the program. Family members of Chrysler group and all other Daimler owner subsidiaries (Other than MBUSA and DFS) are no longer eligible
-The definition of "Immediate family members" has be redefined as: employees, spouse or domestic partner, employees parent, employees brother, sister, son, step son, daughter or stepdaughter
-Each employee of Chrysler Group and all daimler owner subsidiaries (Except DFS and MBUSA) are entitled to use the issued control number only for the employee him/herself
-Eligible retirees of MBUSA and DFS are also eligible for one control number per year, however, no other retirees are eligible. Surviving spouses of MBUSA and DFS eligible retirees are also eligible for one control number per year.
In order to be in compliance with the EVP program guidelines, please ensure the following requirements are completed for each deal:
-Dealer is required to validate control number and match all buyer information through their internal screening process
(There's two other guidelines which say for them to keep records of everything in the deal)
All EVP transactions are subject to audit. Sales not found in compliance with the EVP program rules or its terms /conditions will result in the following penalties for bother employee(and immediate family member when applicable) and selling dealer:
First Violation:
-Chargeback of the employee (and immediate family member if applicable) of the difference betweent he MSRP and the employee price including applicable taxes
Second Violation:
-Same employee chargeback provisions as above, along with employees removal from future participation in the program
-Same dealer chargeback provisions as above, along with a 90 day suspension from all EVP program activity
Third Violation:
-Employee disciplinary action up to and including termination, plus all chargebacks, as stated above.
-Permanent dealership exclusion from the EVP program, plus all chargebacks, as stated above. MBUSA will have sole discretion in determining reinstatement"
I'm not trying to rain in on your party, just telling you it seems very fishy (unless it's an '08 model).
Be careful....
What do you think?

Test drove a '[08 450 before we got the QX. Very, very nice. Smooth and just very German feeling (obviously!). Some cool features that you don't notice on a quick test drive.
In fact, I almost thought that my wife wanted to go ahead and get it. It was not large enough for her (she wanted BIG) and I think that she was a bit spooked about the reliability of a MB since we keep our vehicles for several years.

56k for GL450 is steal. I say go for it and enjoy it while you can and sell it for same price tag you bought/paid for. But personally, I wouldn't buy a mercedes GL450 for full sticker price. (76 grands, there's way too many good choices on that range)

seems like you already made up your mind, but thanks for the braggin' rights
if you have the means, theres no factor going against an all time mark up of 16k
do it.
