Opinions on Lexus GS 450h

Absolutely love my 08 TL Type S, it's my 3rd TL and have owned 4 Acuras since the wife drives an MDX. So the Acura love is there but I'm a full time realtor and have been curious about something with similar or more power, better gas mileage, a little more cabin space, similar or more features, a good ride, plus reliability. Drove this GS 450h today and was quite impressed, almost all the reviews I can find all over are really good & it seems like a reasonable price. Any thoughts & comments from the Azine brotherhood much appreciated.

I would buy it!!!!

I am actually cross shopping used 07-08 TL base or Type-S and 07-08 GS350. Not the hybrid as I worry that although they are still new cars those batteries will cost a hefty price to replace and purchase.

I am leaning more and more towards a Lexus but I love Acura's. But the 3G Lex GS is just awesome car.

I think it's a good buy.

That said, I personally don't like the styling.

Not leading you away, but did you consider the ES or IS350? The 350 in particular is a wondrous vehicle.

Personally, I think this GS looks better than the current GS. I would go for it!

At a glace, the new ES, GS, and LS all look the same to me, just different lengths.

They are very nice, very quiet cars. I've ridden in a couple of GSs and was really impressed.

If you're looking for a very comfortable ride then it's a great option.

Hotness! Would not be ashamed to have that parked in my driveway.

Although, the ballbuster wife I have would never let me drive it.

I say do it. I love them. The power trains on the h models are smooth, linear, and fun.

Is the hybrid really worth the measly 4mpg difference in city diving over the non-hybrid?

I'd be curious the repair costs between the two.

With the higher marque Lexus hybrids (the GS, RX, & LS) its more about power and delivery than added mpg. My mom's former rx400h had v8 power out of a hybrid v6...it was a really nice drive.

I'd buy a 4G TL before the Lexus...09 4g would be significantly less...

Don't underestimate how good the Lexus is. The TL would have to be exceptional to equal it.

Very solid cars. The GS line up of cars over nearly all generations stand up very well over the test of time. You can't really go wrong with the model.

I like the current GS more than the last generation, but I wouldn't call it a vanilla-fest. Certainly stands out more than anything in Acura's current lineup.

I always thought the previous gen GS looked like a less aggressive E-Class. The ones that Lexus are producing right now have the rear of a Hyundai Sonata. I'm also not a huge fan of the new hourglass/predator grille Lexus has introduced. That being said, Acura hasn't done much better with the beak. I'm sure others may disagree with me and I'm okay with that. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

I love this generation GS. I would personally try and find a GS350 vs the hybrid. The 350 has 303 hp and 28 mpg hwy and I'd imagine its cheaper than the hybrid.

This guy is a mod over on the Lexus forum and he traded his in for a 4G TL. He gave his personal opinions on the Lexus. You may want to check with him. Good luck!

I tend to agree with Arcelyte's post. I drove the GS450h at a Lexus event and it's off the line thrust was eye opening. (NOTE: I used to own an 02 Maxima which was pretty good off the line but no where near as explosive as the GSh.)

But the potential cost of repairs would frighten me as well. That said, the GS350 seems to be as capable a GS as the GSh albeit with a bit less mpg but more peace of mind in terms of maintenance cost.

my GS is 12 years and 2 generations old but i love the car.. it is solid and i wouldn't give that car up for anything... even though the 350's are making superb power with the v6, i still wish they offered the v8 in the GS line...

I have to agree, though I imagine that's why people are hoping the rumors of an actual GS-F w/ the IS-F's V8 will come to reality.

I actually drove a GS430 the other day at work, & I can't believe this car had a 0-60 of around 5 seconds & 300 horsepower. That was a lot faster than the majority of sedans in the last decade, even more than my TL-S.

If I was in the market for a daily one day, the GS would be at the top of the list. The amount at work with well over 100,000 miles & driving fine are astounding.

I've met Jeff a couple times & seen his GS in action; insane. Waiting to see whenever he finally finishes his build with the new engine.

A buddy of mine has an '07 350 and man that thing is soooo smooth and comfortable. His is an AWD, though.

When it comes to power - it has plenty! Definitely pushes you back into your seat when you floor it!

I say go for it!

Thanks for the feedback, very good points brought up by all. Will have to look more into the 350s. I was amazingly impressed with the ride and solid feel of car even when driving it ninth snow the other day....would have loved to be able to open it up some. RWD is something that's really attracting me. Damn I love my Type S, all the mods I've done & it's just about paid off...shoulda never on a whoring. Lol.

I dont like those wheels.

Something else to consider is I think the 450h has a sportier suspension...I could be wrong. Otherwise, there is always aftermarket if you got a 350.
