opinions on the C230

My friend is thinking about leasing a C230 sedan. I am saying no. I am telling him that he is gonna be better off financing a TSX.

Is he big on image and whatnot? If he isn't, tell him he should be looking elsewhere (TSX or otherwise).

Some idiots get comforted over the big Benz emblem in the front of their cars, regardless if it's a nice car or not.

yeah, but I think they scaled the engine down to 1.8 liters from 2.3, I believe its always been a kompressor.

The last time I was in Europe, I rented a C200 Kompressor. It was a great car. We took it to the Nurburgring and Paris. It was very quiet. We drove everywhere at 125 mph and you could hold a conversation in a nice normal tone. I would recommend one highly.

Most who advise against them have never driven the C class. You friend should drive the car and see if he/she likes it.

^^^ That's none sense, the C class's have pretty poor reliability, its a fairly well known accolade the cars have earned. Its also earned the rep of being a "poor man's benz" and I think its well deserved. I've driven all of the C classes, from a C230 komp.(the shitty little coupe), to the C240, C320 and C55, not worth the money in my opinion. Why not get a year old BMW 325i? Even though its equally as expensive when things go wrong at least its a fun car to drive. I used to be friends with a service writer at a benz dealership and he said the C class is with out a doubt the worst car in the line up in terms of problems, and it wasn't just because they were the most common. Everything about them feels cheap, in particular the coupe with a cloth interior I drove with a friend on a road trip to pick up his CLK55 and there were three of us in his C240 6-speed and when I was in the back it was very cramped and particularly cheap feeling - the CLK was awesome though!

Be a friend and don't let your friend get this car, that's my

my best friend has a 2004 C230 kompressor. He bought it without coming to me first even though I told him not to. I almost talked him into buying the rsx-s and returning that waste of money, but he wanted the MB image. BS a C230 coupe has no image! It handled well and had great brakes, but everything else was cheap and heavy! Very heavy little coupe, no leather, no CD player! Those cars also are infamous for problems with the MAF sensor, electrical problem, among other things. Do not make the mistake I did and keep him in car buying lockdown!

BTW it was slow as hell, especially down low. The supercharger is a joke! I felt like I was driving my wifes 98 corrolla(no lie) the MB was not much faster. The cloth is shitty also, a camry has nicer cloth then this car did. My wifes corrolla has more comfortable seats too. There must be some supercharger upgrades out there for this car, with some good power it would okay.

Sounds about right

My friends dad bought a CPO S430 and it had no cd player, If I am paying 55k for a used car it better have a cd player.

the C230 costs much more loaded compared to TSX. There are so many other cars you can get out there that are better for the money IMO.

my buddy's dad opted for a C230 Coupe over a G35 about 2 years ago, claiming the MB had better materials. Although the G35 has pretty bad stuff for a 35k car, the MB also cut slack in certain areas.

My buddy Pete HAD a C230K...

And it rewarded him by starting itself on fire, burning down the garage in the process. The ignition key was in Petes' pocket at the time. Go figure.

I rented one just last week while my CLS was in the shop and guess what? I actually liked it. I always thought it'd be a lot better off getting either A4 or 3 series over C class (I had a 98 A4 1.8T with mods) but after driving a C230 (it only comes with Kompressor now with 201 hp), I loved the way it was responding. Nice ride, quiet interior and pretty good acceleration. That's only if he considers German/European vehicles. I'd still get a TL or TSX over C230.

I would get a TL over the C230. I am not a fan of the TSX and for the amount of money you would spend on the C230, why would you downgrade to a TSX when you can get the TL?

I enjoyed my C class a lot, but a big reason was due to the 349 horses under the hood. If he is looking at a C230, tell him to get a G35 or TL. They are a much better car/buy for the money.

my friend has a 240 and im amazed at the overall cheapness of the car. Had it 6 months-door lock broken on passenger side, cup holder broken, center concole broken, windshield wipers broken, sunroof broken, trunk broken, radio knob broke off, buttons FELL out of the console--hope he has fun with it

P.S-THEY ARE SLOW AS HELL
