So far so good. This car has been kind to us. we always enjoyed taking the boxster to the ice cream shop and missed that until we got this car. We sit in the parking lot with the top down in the evening enjoying our ice cream.
It doesn't have a ton of power but it does get to 140 in less than a 1/2 mile.
We took it to vermont in July and it was good and bad. The bad was that the roads were a bit more rough than i had remembered, and we had to really plan out what to take and bring back.
The good was that we got to drive around with the top down most of the time. The seats were so much more comfortable than the tsx. And i stress much more. My butt normally hurts for a day after the ride up, but not this time.
We managed good mileage that was around 24-27, Even with Mrs. Dallison's lead foot.
I have some things that i need to do this winter with the maintenance, but nothing major.
Everyone should own a fun car at least once in their lives, and we're enjoying this.

Glad to hear she's treating you well still. Where abouts in New Hampshire did you guys go? Did you take her up Mt. Washington? What's the 911 rated HP-wise?

We typically stay in the southern half of the state since it's a two hour drive to the northeast kingdom.
It's always a relaxing time up there.
That vid of Joey is great!

We were in VT. We normally stay up the mountain near Manchester. This pic was taken along 100a coming back from long trail brewery. We had more pics but there was a snafu with the memory card.

not possible, i got the old snip snip, so the plate will live on!
In other news, i needed, or wanted to replace the aos(air oil seperator) and the starter. The starter was having the wheezing noise from being tired like other 986 and 996's and i was tired of it. I tore apart the top end of the motor, or at leas the pieces on on top of the motor.
I tore a line on the fuel rail and needed to replace the entire fuel rail. I decided to replace the fuel injectors since there was some age on the old ones.
I had broken a couple small peices like some vacuum lines, and the voltage regulator.
I will tell those who are thinking of buying one of these and want to wrench on it but don't have the tools or funds to go to an indy, don't.
It takes a lot of patience, skinny arms and hands, and tools to work on it. I was pretty frustrated with the small amount of room after a while, but it all worked out.
The grey dragon runs again.

And I killed the motor. It appears that the timing chain broke and married some valves. It is being sold as a roller tomorrow. A new motor is 10-20k and that is not in the cards right now. At least i can park one of the other cars in the garage now. It's sad but that's life. Now who do i blame?

Damn man sorry to hear. You can probably find another one used for less than the cost of that new motor down the road.

Most definitely. With 107k on the clock, i am getting 8k. What's funny is that i was at the dealership a couple days before and they offered 12k as a trade. I thought that was too low as i could have sold it for 15-17k private party. But then i would have a 30-40k depreciating car.
I will get another one one day, but a TT.

To all those who say.. I have a timing chain, I don't need to change it..

Do you know if it was the chain that actually failed, or something along the path?

Sorry to hear. Failures like that suck.
Are timing chain failures common?

My heart sunk when it happened and i knew it was catastrophic. they aren't extremely common but they do happen from time to time. I would guess the extremely tight tolerances put a lot more stress on these motors.

I checked the oil levels afterwards and all was good. It looked clean and so did the antifreeze. It could have been the replaced ims bearing, but it's hard to tell w/o ripping it apart.

Thanks. It was pretty uneventful. It made a little noise, i couldn't go anywhere and i just rolled to a stop. There are worse things in life. losing money on it is hard but i have saved so much money on other things, that at least takes some of the sting out.

Now that it's pooched and worth very little, would it be worth it for you to take your time and slowly strip it down and attempt a repair? I can't imagine you have much, if anything to lose now.
What about sourcing a used engine? There's gotta be some around, somewhere.

As a roller i sold it for 8k. Not great, but a good price for a clean almost 15 year old car that had a catastrophic failure. Getting stressed about it will get me nowhere. I could either be out a little money or an extra 12-20k.
