If I'm not mistaken, the fastest stock time was a 13.10 for the 454 LS6 and 13.12 for the 426 Hemi Cuda. These were the reported best times for a competely factory stock car with no mods or even tires. So the 70s bias belted tires just went up in smoke big time. With a set of small slicks these cars ran mid 12s, still stock.

There are some factory tuners from Yenko and COPO that produced better times, but these are considered factory stock. I'm trying to find the link, but for some reason I think the fastest of these was either the ZL1 Camaro (possibly a COPO or Yenko) and the COPO Nova. For some reason the Nova rings a bell.

Also not mentioned are the 70-74 Challengers. These were great looking cars as well.

Also, the Cobra was not a true Muscle Car by definition. It was more of a sports car/roadster and in a different class.

Ruf
I actually got the times of the Chevelle and Cuda reversed. :o

And it figures that I find the link after I posted. :P

More info on which cars were actually considered Muscle Cars.

Note that the Vette is not considered a Muscle Car either.

Overall I've always liked the 1970 Yellow & Black GSX.

Of course the "World's Fastest NHRA Super Stocker" is a ... a 198 cu. in. Turbo Regal, like the one above, that has run 7.90's

Here's another reason I liked the 70 GSX . . quote from the Muscle Car source.

"1970: 455 Stage 1 V8 360bhp@4600rpm, 510lb-ft@2800rpm . . . 510lb-ft of torque. This was the highest torque rating of any production engine besides Cadillac's 472 and 500 cid V-8s, and no engine achieved it at a lower rpm (2800rpm). "

Now imagine that the 70 GSX came with the 455 Stage II option . . . and note that no specs were ever given for it.

And note that the Stage 1 1970 GS was the 9th fastest rated car. I'd bet that the Stage II would have been pushing the top 5 very hard.

But what do you expect from a Ford!

The 1985 Grand National is the wrong one for this class. It was an 8.0 0-60 16 second car.

It is the 1986-19878 intercooled version that you want. It was the 4.9 sec 13.9 1/4 factory car.....

I hyad a 1986 T Type with this motor.

I was running 11.20's at 124 when I sold it--- with minor mods.

while the GN is an awesome car and I did vote for it, it shouldn't really be in this class.

Once again...........

Two seat sports cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Shelby Cobra are not considered muscle cars due to their high price and specialty nature. The only exception is the AMC AMX as it was relatively cheap, and was based on the AMC Javalin pony car.

2) 1967 Dodge Dart GT Convertible

i think from the muscle car link some of those cars are in the wrong order ......... and those cars had shitty ass tires and were very underrated ... if they said the hemi and the 454 were 13.1 it was low 12s with slicks
