OK to mix oil brands?

In the same oil change. Like 3qt of brand A and the other 1.6 of brand B. Both would be dino juice. Same weights of course.

No, the oils might mix but the additives may not be compatible.

If its just to top it off then its fine. Better than being low on oil.

But why bother, go buy 2qts of oil of the same kind.

I agree though... just go grab some of the same kind, of course if your stranded in the middle of the desert with nothing but brand "x", pour it in.

I wouldn't do it. One time I rented a ryder truck to move cross country, and about halfway I checked the oil. It was ~ a quart low, so I bought a quart of oil and added it. About 10 miles down the road I noticed the low oil pressure light coming on, so I pulled over. When I pulled the dipstick out I noticed the oil had become incredibly thin, so to make a long story short I had to do an oil change on a ryder truck on the side of the highway. The old oil was all foamy and thin kind of looked like a bubble bath.
