OK I got a radar...

I've read numerous threads about either Passport 8500 or V1 or NOTHING. Like it's either those two or dont even bother. Well I got a BEL 935 from my friend sooo is it worth using? Or will it make too many false alerts? Also where do most of you guys have yours placed and is it ok to put in on velcro right in the middle of the dash or does the windshield wipers fux it up? And do the radars use alot of power anyone know like how much Voltage?(probally a dumb question) but i got alot of other electronics in the car dont wanna overload you know...

i think the main difference between the expensive ones and the cheesy ones are the range of detection also as well as false alarms, but mostly detection range.

i have a V1 and according to the manual, you supposed to mount it higher so it can have a longer line of sight. so i mount mine next to the rear view mirror by the passager side. you should also have to keep the radar level. this should be obvious to why it should be level but some people don't see it. i've seen people have it point either way up or way down. so i would suggest you to mount it high but just under the windshield "tint" cuz it might also obstruct or weaken the radar signal.

but i wouldn't trust yours too much. i don't even trust mine 100%. i try not to speed in a wide open area w/ places cops can hide and with every few cars on the road. that's just like shooting fish in a barrel.

I have my 8500 mounted a little over the middle of the windshield.

I agree just use it as an extra tool, dont let it give you a false sense of security.

8500 Down low.

8500 Down, V1 Up

Different angle.

V1 & 8500 Comparo.

Closeup...V1 (hardware v1.7, software v2.909)

Windshield tint = 55%

The Remote.

r0dxx: If I were you...I'd mount the BEL like this.

That's the 8500 mounted so that the driver can see the screen...other than that, it's completely hidden from the back. I chose the the V1 simply becuase of the rear detection (NOT the arrows). In the future...if I ever get a unit that didn't have rear detection, I'd mount them like this.

edgalang: Keep in mind that it is well known that two or more radar detectors in the same vehicle can cause negative interference that kills performance including the V1. Get more details on the V1 site. Lose the crappy one and keep the V1 up

i have to say the BEL is not all that bad i got the 960 and works great....but dont gimme wrong i'd get a V1 over it but i needed a detector pronto....all radar detectors have false alarms and some of em have extra features that block em out such as the CITY X mode on the BEL

yeah that dual detector stuff is hella gay.. as is that emblem on the dash. Looks like a 16 year old kid owns it. Why would you fuck up a nice car like your CL? Just my two cents.

Wow...for a 21 year-old, you talk like your such a big man. Perhaps you should slow your mouth down before you make a jackass out of yourself.

Regardless, why not keep this thread constructive instead of flames.

The dual detector was done so I can compare them side by side in a real world 1200 mile test drive from SanFrancisco to San Diego. This was done to calm down huge debates between the V1 & 8500, and since everyone had either one or the other, I stepped up to the plate and got both to end all debates.

They were placed like this with the request of MANY members from ACL, ATL & AW. I've had them both individually one at a time and in different locations. In the end, this was determined to be the "most" fair of all the combinations.

As far as "fucking up anything"...I think you're the one who screwed yourself over. This board is about helping each other out, good like finding friends for advice. :thumbsdn:

And if you only had a clue, you would of known that there are no CL's in any of the pictures and that in the end, the V1 stayed in my car. But then again...judging by your attitute, age & date of registry, I can see that your still a noob...go figure.
