I'm excited to see how this plays out

TacoBello 03-17-2016 03:45 PM

What were those parts worth? 5k at most? That seller just ruined his entire business for 5k. Hope It was worth it for him.

cu2wagon 03-17-2016 03:48 PM

Well, he didn't *know* he was going to ruin his business when he saw the easy $$$$ grab.

But I have a feeling the feces has hit the rotary blades and he's starting to get that distinct taste in his mouth now...

If that 'seller' was never working there, why did they do the transaction there.. something is shady.. I hope that lawyer that offered help in Jalopnik article reaches out to OP or vice versa..

Sweet! They're having a party with their sexy-receptionist next month.

That would be a cool time for a s2k rally at the restaurant next door or something!

Glad I followed Roland Bluntsz advice, the front sway bar alone was the perfect upgrade.

Steering is direct, front end is very planted and I experience little to no body roll (even on stock suspension) under heavy turn-in.

Can't wait to take it to the back roads this weekend!

Highly recommended.

Wow, that's a great review, Tyler...

So, everyone suggests this rather than the bar up top? I have one of those x braces that goes from lower support up to strut tower across...I felt a huge improvement in bump steer with it.

TommySalami 03-19-2016 09:31 PM

Anyone want to buy my Gendron front sway bar? I've had this thing sitting around for a while. I'd do $150+shipping (goes for $650 new), it just doesn't have endlinks since they were damaged

rockstar143 03-20-2016 08:07 AM

Is it the updated design one?

Think of the top tower brace as being a passive system and the sway bar being an active system. You'll notice some amount of stability increase with the tower bar (as you stated) since it adds some structure to the two mounting points but you'll notice a huge increase in how planted the car is and reduction in body roll with the sway bar since it actively stiffens the suspension in the turn without having to go with stiffer springs.

rockstar143 03-20-2016 01:13 PM

Interesting! Seems like an easy enough upgrade too!
Thanks!

It's not too bad once you figure out how to wiggle the bar out from everything. I (personally) wouldn't swap the rear one out for a stiffer one as that would promote more oversteer and that's something the S doesn't really need. I did that on my E46 Xi and it helped immensely to fix the understeer issue.

On another note, what's everyone's thoughts on transmission fluid? Mine is due for a change soon that'll be done during the spring service. What do you guys recommend and run in yours? I've heard there are better options than Honda's MTF.

TLDude876 03-20-2016 07:46 PM

GM Syncromesh MTF

TheMuffinMan 03-20-2016 08:58 PM

I *think* I've got Honda MTF in my car now.

Differential is Amsoil Severe Gear 75w110 (maybe 140?)

The Machine 03-20-2016 09:07 PM

I have Honda MTF in mine. A lot of people use either Amsoil or GM Snychromesh with Friction Modifier. I'm not quite sure how thick the Amsoil or GMSM is compared to Honda MTF, but if it's a thicker fluid it will take longer to warm up, which could take a while since you're in the colder climate of MN. Hell, I'm in NJ and I feel like with the Honda MTF it still takes a little bit to warm up so shifts are smoother, so I'm not sure if I would switch to another fluid.

That said if thickness of fluid was the same, I'd probably try out the GMSM. I used to use a mixture of that and another fluid in my WRX trans and it worked nicely, but seemed to take time to warm up. Tyler (Penguin) just changed his fluid to GMSM and seems to really like it.

SamDoe1 03-20-2016 09:16 PM

Thanks guys. By GM synchromesh, do you mean literally from GM? As in I could walk into a Chevy dealership and get this stuff? Any idea on how much per quart for GMSM?

It's branded by AC Delco now but yeah, it's a standard GM product. Not all dealers have it stocked so you should call ahead. It's not cheap but not that expensive either, about $16/quart.

I tried it but settled on the Honda MTF. The GMSM was smoother before the transmission warmed up, and in the cold, but the Honda MTF was better when warm and lasted longer as well.

All the Miata guys who are aware run Ford manual transmission fluid in our cars. Lots of brand swapping lol

BROlando 03-20-2016 09:43 PM

Honda MTF or Torco MTF is what I've used. Honda MTF tends to break down pretty fast on a track.

I don't do used oil ANALyses, but I did notice the change (in a bad way) in shifting feel after about 2 or 3 track days.

Without track days, the shifting feel is fine for 5-10k miles on Honda MTF.

Torco isn't as smooth when cold, but its great when warmed up...and it stays consistent for longer. I never wait more than one track season to change it. So...idk...8-10k miles?

TLDude876 03-21-2016 06:17 AM

From my experience, I didn't like Honda MTF. I swapped it in and I immediately drained it after only 4 miles. Shifts are much smoother with the GM stuff. I just picked up some recently on amazon. I was going to try Amsoil but for around $10 I think I'll stick with a product that I know works. I change my fluid often anyway, way more than I should :tomato:

Thanks!

Installation was a breeze, took about 40 minutes in all - remove 1 plastic under tray, remove 4 x 14mm bolts holding the sway bar brackets, remove the 12mm nuts holding the end links and you're good to put in the new bar

I got the Eibach front bar.

Damn. Maybe I'll go get my S2000 this week. I miss it EVER so much.

As long as it doesn't actually snow mid week and they don't put down 65 tonnes of salt per hectare.

I'm not sure why I'm using units of measure derived from South American farming....

rockstar143 03-21-2016 10:15 AM

Funny you ask, Tyler...dusted off the Nikon yesterday since Rio was clean and Kinetic isn't home.

What type of suspension is it on?

Ahhh, there we go. Fully torqued at work :naughty:

Seriously man, car looks handsome as fu. Every single angle the car flows so well and I'm sure it looks even better in person.

We're supposed to get 3-6in this Wednesday. I was spoiled by the weather we had a few weeks ago with the 60F temps and sunshine.
