did you see the torque difference

i've driven the e55, if you keep it off the sport settings drives fine.
I have not driven an M5 nor E55 AMG but have driven various levels of the E60 and W211. On the lower levels I like the W211 > E60 on 6 cylinder models (exc. 535i) but prefer the E60 when it comes to V8s. In general though, I like the driving dynamics and aesthetics of the E60 over the W211.
That said, I would be more inclined towards the E55 over the M5 as I like cars with great straightline prowess....though the E55 is only marginally quicker than the M5. (Probably the same reason why I like the Altima/Maxima/G35 a little more than the Accord/TL.)
Good video thought.
I wish they would have displayed the 1/4 mile trap though.

I actually saw these while they were being built. His Supra was amazing. Those Solaras are even better.

I've had the opportunity to test drive both multiple times: When I was car-shopping a couple of weeks ago and the other times from friends who owned either of these sedans. My impressions were very divided and although I'm on fifth BMW, I can honestly say that I really liked the E55. It has an impossible amount of torque down low for city driving which is must for most people. There is a plethora of luxury, massaging seats, comfortable and silent ride, certainly more discreet in public than the M. It did feel on the heavy side on some B roads but nothing that could have stopped me from buying. With that said, if I was to buy and spend my hard earned money, it would be a no brainer.
M5 all day long seven days of the week. You simply need to drive it to ''feel'' the difference. I can't explain it in words, it's almost a feeling you get behind the wheel. It simply feels a superiorly engineered car. The E is really a bullet in the straights and I like a fast car in the straights but fun is in the corners whereas the M shines. The way the car snaps when you shift gears, my God.The V10 motor is a match made in heaven, it's such a thrilling car to drive. The only thing that scared me and made me walk away from such a beautiful car was the reliability, hence why I bought the E39. My bud was on his second transmission. The car spent a lot of time in the shop and he ended up ordering another one. It had such a great impression on me, I think it'll be my next car.
At the end, it really comes down to what suits you best. It's like the eternal fight between the raging bull and the prancing horse. There are no losers.
.Just lucky mah'fackin winnars.

i would take the m5 neday.. the exterior is more my style than the e55. They are both well powered cars and thee fact that one can beat the other by a sec or so doesnt make much of a difference to me.. It would be the ride quality and the overall fit and finish of the car imho..

In general I'd take a Mercedes any day of the week over a BMW, so that should be a given.

I love how people can tell which one they would own when I bet just about everyone in this thread has never driven BOTH cars to compare.
