Now I want an EVO, please give me feedback.

I've been going back and forth on what my next car is going to be. I have my car loan approved and am set to buy my own first car (around $30k).......I've already crossed off the S2000 (realized I can't do the 2-seater), a used 330, IS300 and TSX.

Now I'm left going back and forth with:

1. EVO VIII (it looks so damn sexy.....but the interior is crap, also reliability?)
2. WRX STi (interior is MUCH better in '05 IMO, looks are so-so) both have insane power.
3. Subaru Legacy GT lmtd (my sensible side comes out.....good power, decent interior, well-priced IMO, fun to drive.....but exterior styling leaves much to be desired)
4. VW R32 (interior is sweet, I hear it rides like a dream, very usable powerband....pretty much everything I want in a car.......BUT it's a little hatchback, hard to justify the $$$)

I really need to just settle on my decision and go out and buy one. Just don't want to get "caught up" in a rash decision derived from impulse. Any comments? Smack some sense into me!

Depends what you want.

I got my first ride in a Evo yesterday. It was slighly modded with turboback exhaust and bigger FMIC (with some other fuel managment crap too) and the thing HAULS. He spun in 1st and chriped hard in 2nd!!! I liked the car but its just not me, if i wanted easy power i would go with the STI since i like the looks better of it.

So basicly what do you want? Raw power or comfort ?

I would say used 330ci but the e90 will be coming out and will look dated soon. IMO

do you have a house/condo of your own yet? I'm trying to do that before buying a nice new car...

however if you've already got that taken care of I'd go with the STi from the list above.

Out of that list Id take the STi

EVO MR will be out soon. Look up my thread on seeing one firsthand at an autoX event.

R32 is a pig, specially at that price and what costs the same or less and will spank it.

It's seriously a toss up between an STi and the Evo. I don't know if I want to pay the extra $$$ for the MR, do you think the MR is worth the price difference over the the regular VIII? I like the STi a lot, but something about the exterior styling of the EVO really intrigues me.

The ride in the STi was pretty harsh and raw.....from what I hear, the EVO is even more so. I'm going to test drive the EVO this week for sure, let's see if the test drive completely sells me.

they both ride amazing, for the application.

If you buy the EVO, dont buy it for the warranty.

2 of my good friends have both an Evo and STi. I've driven both a number of times. It's a hard decision to choose between the two IMO. I really can't say which one I'd pick:

The Evo has better exterior styling, it's more fun to drive fast and I love the engine (it's a dog down low, but when the boost kicks in, it's sick and just feels faster due to the turbo lag). Ride is harsh, but not terrible. Interior is total crap though.

The STi is ugly to me on the outside, but the interior is light years better than the Evo's, and the engine is stronger than the Evo's but overall, it's not as much fun to drive hard. It feels somewhat floaty compared to the Evo. Power is more linear (similar to my Z) than the Evo, but feels slower due to that fact.

Overall, you can't go wrong with either car. Drive each to see which you like best.

EVO has a better aftermarket for it doesnt it?

Correct me if im wrong but i read some where that the STI engine is pumped up to pritty much its maximum potential without tampering with internals. The EVO on the other hand is more open to aftermarket support and are supposedly respond better to mods?

i'd still get an STI over the EVO

not true. they both have mucho potential.

i still prefer the STi. but again both are truly awesome. Mitsu as a company really turns me off, thats where they lose me big time.

Werd.....I've heard nightmares about getting things covered by the warranty. Basically it seems that their excuse for not covering damages is because "it was driven too hard and therefore was abused."

Correct me if I'm wrong.....but wasn't the EVO built to be driven hard and perform at it's best at the limits? I know that extensive abuse can wreck a car, but that shouldn't be reason to decline a warranty claim.

I'm only planning on keeping my next car about two years, esp. if it is an EVO or STi, so I hope I won't run into too many problems in that short timespan.

I think you're right. I'm not an expert in this matter, but my friend with the STi said this is primarily due to the fact that the US-spec STi is using a brand new engine never released before (2.5L turbo) vs the JDM 2.0L turbo STi, so the aftermarket hasn't had a chance to catch up.

The Evo's engine is basically the same as the old 2g eclipse, so there's been aftermarket parts available for a long time.

Also, my friend with the STi mentioned that the STi engine for now doesn't respond very well to mods and he's heard of a few people who have already blown their engines trying to eek out a few more hp with the stock internals. Again, this is from a friend, so I can be somewhat wrong.

^ I still think they are both highly moddable, from what i remember reading.

But yes, teh EVO has a larger support bracker because the engine has been around forever.

One of the guys at my autoX has an EVO VII he imported and he's got it up to 400hp at teh wheels!!!

Sucks, that car has no real classing to run in, he always times near the go karts out there. amazing car, but he is also an amazing driver. hes a nationals contender this year.

I like both, had the Evo and traded it for the STi...........would get the STi though hands down over the Evo.

If I had to choose again, its just a nicer car.

Not to mention, right now I wouldn't touch a Mitsu with a ten foot pole.

You can't go wrong w/either car. If you're into modding and you want a car that handles like a go-kart then get the evo. There is much more aftermarket support for the 4g63 than there is for the usdm sti powerplant. If you'd rather have the nicer interior and comfier ride then go w/the sti.
