19k miles in one year? hmm...well it's a good bet then that they're mostly highway miles which is always a plus. i'm still not feeling the new 5 series design but that could be the complete opposite of you. also, do you need the extra room the 5 offers as opposed to the 3? if not, the 3 has always been a more fun car to drive than the 5 with the exception of the 540i.
on the other hand, i definitely think $43,900 is a fair price considering that brand new, with all those options, it should have been near $60,000, which i'm sorry, is way too much for a stationwagon.

I need the room, my wife has a 330xi and it is just a bit too small for me. Besides, I need the room to haul golf clubs, ski gear, trial exhibits, a dog, roadtrip luggage, bikes, etc. so this shld do it in style. I considered the S4 but again, too small. The latest car buying guide for Consumer's tells you to avoid the E at all costs and that was my only other choice. Technically this car is two years old as it was sold in 8/05 so 19K didn't seem too bad. Especially loaded up it was over 62K. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger

I didn't know the 5-Series came in a wagon...

Is that a photo of the actual car? Very nice.

The E has issues that make it problematic for me: need to replace brakes and rotors at or before 25K; horrible electrical gremlins; engine gremlins; trannie problems; far below avg reliability and on and on. Out of all the cars MBZ makes, none are recommended by CR while 77%, incl, the 5, is recommended by CR. I'm goin' w/ the 5 and keeping my fingers crossed.

Even still..
A6 Avant > 5series wagon.
The LED tails on this car looks sweet as hell in person. I saw one last week on the 210. Although I don't know why in this pic it doesn't look like it has them I know it was an a6 avant that I had seen on the road.

and the one I saw on the road was a US Version. I could tell from a good distance back it was an A6 because of it's distinctive led tails and sure enough when I had pulled up closer it was.
I saw a pic of one on Audizine, can't find it now.

Nice...but, if it's a mid-sized wagon, I have a weakspot for the Subaru Legacy GT.

I need something luxurious, Subies don't cut it for me, ditto Volvos (I always thought their interiors looked too cheap). That Audi is nice looking

Turns out the car IS available and it's a couple hundred miles closer than originally thought (PA instead of Ill.) I have Carchex going out to look at it today. If it's all good, I'm pulling the trigger ( I think . . . . )

I had a 530xi as a loaner car last summer for several days. I got the car just in time for a trip into the Pocono's. Had 3 people in the car, and a backend full of luggage for both legs of the trip.
It held all of our luggage no sweat, and drove great; I was really surprised how well it accelerated, handled, and just felt on the road. I'm not a huge fan of the interior styling of the E60's, but thats the only downside to the car IMO. Overall I was surprisingly very impressed by the car as was my Wife, brother in law, and cousins.
Its 2 yrs into the model year, so early bugs should be ironed out; if you need a wagon, I'd definitely recommend this one. Good Luck.

thanks a lot Mr. Hyde. This is precisely how I see the car being used by me and my friends to go on ski trips. Skis in the rack and back end loaded up for a 4 day trip to the mountains. I've test driven one and it was really quiet riding. Felt nice even w/ standard seats. The one I am looking at has the sport seats. I can't believe how huge the sunroof is. It's like the width of the car practically and almost 2/3's of the length of the roof. It'll be great on our annual trip to Saratoga for the Travers as we are always packed to the gills on that one!
