Nissan's stake in the Z
Nissan Motor Co., Japan's third- largest automaker, said it plans to sell 42,000 units a year worldwide of the latest incarnation of its Z sports car, two years after stopping production of the 30-year old model.
Tokyo-based Nissan said the car, which was the automaker's first hit in the U.S. three decades ago, will be priced between 3 million yen ($25,000) and 3.6 million yen for the home market.
"The model is essential for our brand,'' President Carlos Ghosn said earlier this year in an interview. "We feel strongly about our new products, and to release the Z will be the revival of Nissan.''
Since 1969, the car's first year of sales, Nissan has sold 220,000 Z cars in Japan, and 1.22 million overseas. Nissan is in its busiest year for model releases with 12 new or redesigned vehicles, including the Z car, Cube compact car and Cefiro sedan.
