New tire time.

Wife's '00 Civic EX Coupe is in need of some new rubber.

Did a little looking and review reading.

Based on what's available at Costco and Tire Rack, any of you have experience with either of these tires?

Choice #1 Michelin X Radial @ Costco. I can get $70 off the set as a special michelin is running through them until the 1st. They quoted me $260 installed. Or I can just buy the tires and have my FIL do it. I think the tires were about $60 a pop otherwise.

Choice #2 Yokohama AVID Touring-S. Tire rack $52 each.

Reviews seems pretty favorable to both. Back when I owned a passenger car I only bought higher end potenzas and falkens. And I run BFGs on my truck.

So, I have no clue what's good or bad anymore.

People seem to like General tires...they are pretty inexpensive.

I liked my Avid V4's, but I'm not too happy with the performance of my Yoko AS430's in the snow...

I'm going to go with the Yoko Avids again next year...

I've actually ran a few sets of these on the pickups and have been quite impressed with them.

mechanic FIL prefers the yokes, too. But just said the Michelins are close enough to the yokes that if cost is less to just go with those I kinda agree with him since we don't performance drive the car.

Gotta find out.

Any name brand tire is safe/fine for normal driving, just make sure it has good consumer reviews, which you have and buy what you feel is the best tire.

When I was in the business I had customers who said tire X was the best tire ever made and others would say tire X was the worst tire ever made. It is impossible to please everyone.

My buddy just bought the Kuhmo Solus KR21 for his Lexus and they were pretty cheap. They have a high mileage warranty and they are very comfortable. Tire Rack has them for $54 a piece for your civic. BTW, what kind of tires are you looking for (performance, touring)?

About 6 months ago, I purchased some General Altimax HP's for my sister's 97 328i. Great handling, smooth ride, and they look great too! My sister loves them says her car feels more stable now. She used to have Sumitomo's that didn't seem to handle very well. The Generals were $61 each and so far worth every penny. I got them from treadepot.com. At the time they had a free shipping offer on these. There are many positive reviews on tirerack.com which prompted me to purchase them. I was going to get them at tirerack until I spotted the free shipping on treadepot with nearly the same price. Check them out for yourself.

In on the first page, mandatory for all Costco-related threads.......

As said, the Exalto A/S was lightyears better than the OEM Michelins on the TL in terms of handling, comfort and noise but they're probably kinda expensive compared to others.

This should be the determining factor. If you live with a fair amount of rain, then go with the better wet traction, and the same with dry. For me, the Yoko will be a little quieter.
