I'm interested in the new SOLO by Passport. Battery powered so I won't have to bother hardwiring it.

So what does the GPS do besides letting you know how fast you're going? My speedometer does that without having to look at a tiny display. Can someone sell me on why this makes this detector more desireable than a V1?

GPS = Variable speed sensitivity, allows almost 100% blocking of false signals, stores speed traps in memory....

Its all in the article you just gotta read it

Only you can say it its more desirable than a V1, its personal choice

Also if your detector goes off every time you pass the same grocery store, you can save that to the memory, and it wont false alert for that grocery store ever again.

Now what would be nice is if there was a data base where you could get that info to DL into your detector

Ehh, I'll stick with my V1 since I value my directional arrows MUCH more than the ability to store speed traps that I already know exist...

What happens when you save the x- alert from the store and the trooper parks there the next day for a ticket or two?

Its not storing speed traps, its storing false alerts and deleting them forever. Mike Valentine is proud of you sir for your ignorance.

it probably senses the amount of signals its picking up. The multi meter in my 8500 has saved me many many times as well

yea, it saves the frequency of the false alarm along with the location. Automatic doors and Police radar run on different frequencies.

Taken directly from the Escort website:

• Mark Location stores speed traps and other locations in memory.

Speed traps and camera locations are everywhere. It's a stretch of highway where they always sit, or it's a back road that quickly changes from 45 mph to 25 mph within a few hundred feet. You don't always remember, but now your PASSPORT 9500i will. The PASSPORT 9500i's "Mark Location" feature allows you to quickly store a specific location in memory. Simply tap the "Mark" button a couple of times and the 9500i will store this location in memory. The next time you approach this area, the PASSPORT 9500i will provide an alert well in advanced to remind you of the potential danger. This specific location reminder could keep you from being ambushed by instant-on radar or laser the next time you approach.

You should probably do some actual research before you call someone else ignorant and look like a moron (yet again)...

IMO, this looks like an x50 with a few gimmicks added on. I'm not saying the 9500i (or the x50) is a bad detector, far from it. In fact, you can't go wrong with any Escort radar.

When I was looking for a radar detector over the summer, I did a head-to-head comparision between the V1 and x50 and loved both of them. They performed equally well with the only major difference being the directional arrows on the V1. They've saved me more times than I can count, and I value them much higher than the ability to store/delete falses and speed traps. Again, just my .

Looks pretty cool. Lots of nice features.
But still no directional arrows.
Now the V1 is due for a complete retrofit.
Can’t wait to see what Mike Valentine comes out with to top Passport…….Again

The arrows are one of the most useless features on a radar detector. Mike Valentine has really marketed that gimmick well.

Agreed. I've had multiple radar detectors in the past, and the V1 is by far the best. I don't think I can ever go back to another radar detector that doesn't have them.

I have a few specific examples where it saved me when cops came up from behind and I like the fact you can specify the location of the signal.

The features on this detector sound interesting, but I prefer the arrows.

I had a situation the other day that may hurt the ignore feature though.

On the highway I pass every day on my commute where there is a road work sign that tells you to slow down. It emits a strong K band, so I normally ignore it, but it does remind me to slow down because a work zone is up ahead and a pretty big speed trap.

I was driving at night and I noticed the K band went off like usual. I slowed down and when I got close, I noticed the sign was off, but a cop was sitting behind it using K band radar. I'm sure he was using that as a way to fool those who always ignore the signal. Luckily having it still go off reminded me to slow down and I didn't get nailed, so I don't mind the minor inconvenience of having to hear an alert.

I think this is much more useful for those who drive in city or local roads.

Nope, but I've got an 8500 X50. A couple of buddies have the V1 and it falses a lot more. If you use a radar detector properly, the arrows are useless. When your radar detector gets a strong hit, slow down.

Damn, I want one, but I can't see spending that much $ on one especially when I have an 8500 X50

And how long have we been saying that???

It seems like years since anything positive has come out of V1 headquarters. The wait better damn well be worth it!

Yes, the outside definitely looks dated, I admit that, but the internals are updated every few years and it still kicks ass whenever there is a nonbiased review/test.
