New license plates in New York, opinions?
Do you like this retro gold look with NY's new plates coming out this week? I think I like them, even though they seem they would clash with a lot of colors?
Since I just bought the new TL in the red basque pearl, I was wondering if this new color wouldnt go better than the old one?

The new one is butt-ugly. Looks like something only a blind person would approve.

I like the old one better.
The new one looks like it belongs on a taxi.

I've seen people busted for using tape to change them, at a distance looks good. Close up not so much.

on to the next one...
They sent me a new printed plate, but I'm sticking with my old stamped plate for as long as legally possible for obvious reasons...

Oregon only issues one printed plate (Crater Lake) while the rest are all stamped. This state is very slow to adopt new technology so it wouldn't surprise me if they stick with stamped plates for a while to come. That's just fine with me because I hate the printed plates...they just look and feel fake.

1) 129 million in revenue will be created in two years time
2)IMO the big reason, NY will be getting 500 more cop cars fitted with those digital license plate readers (for those that are unfamiliar, thats those two units you see on the trunk of cop cars, one aimed at each side), and these new plates are supposed to enable these plate readers to get cleaner reads. Thats some major revenue maker right there.
Here the article...

Not to say that this wouldn't work for other methods of license place recognition...but I dunno

Loved that plate.
That said, I like the new one.. probably b/c I like the retro NY plate. One thing that is odd is that NY seems to change plates 10x more then any other state. I wonder why that is. Seems like it would be cheaper to go with a design for an extended period of time...
