New car urge

Lately I've felt like selling my car and getting something new. I usually have this feeling every few months, but lately I've really been considering it. Curious how often everyone else got the urge for a new car?

Around the time the car dies/the cost of repair isn't worth it anymore.

Haven't had any reason to get something different any earlier yet, but perhaps with our super-huge dog on the way, and a family sometime down the road, I'll need something that'll suit those needs better. Mind you, I'm ready to throw the TL out the window before the tranny fails, cuz once it goes, I am not spending thousands of dollars to replace it. It would make sense for me to get into a different car beyond that point so I could get some sort of money on trade, but I'm just not actively making that happen right now. For now, I'm just holding onto what I've got.

Depends, what are you willing to spend, because 3K can go a long way in making your car fun enough to last another 3 years or so. Maybe powdercoat your wheels, get new ones, or supercharge that sucker, I mean, that nwould be less expensive, and give you the thrill yoiu need.

But I hear you, I always get that feeling when i see a new model debut, like the G37, or 335 coupe. just got to hold out till the 2009 TL, and hope for the best features/ design.

BTW, if you're someone who wants to get a new car every few months (versus at least a few years), you'll probably never be happy with anything. ever. I find people with these types of personality traits are never satisfied with what they have.

Why not enjoy what you've got? Maybe you need to use a little more discrimination when choosing a car next time, so that you don't feel the need to change it so soon?

You probably get that feeling because of where you work.

For me, I generally get a car that I like and stick with it for a number of years. When the car doesn't feel fun any more, I started looking. FWIW, I was annoyed with the Camry after about a year, but took over 2 years to dump it. I'm happy with the TL and don't feel any desire to change, but have to decide if I'm going to buy it off the lease or get a new car (say, a 335i like everyone else here on AZ... ).

I've had this car for 4 years so getting a new car would hardly be considered soon. And I generally don't truly consider getting a new car evey few months, but the idea pops into my head. Usually it passes though when I realize I still like my car. It hasn't this time, so I think it may finally be time to move on.

It certainly isn't helping right now

Every 6 months and I usually act on it.

It costs about the same as getting a new girl every six months but at least this way, i dont have to worry about aids.

For me it really varies, I only get the urge when I get bored with driving a car. There comes a point when adding a few bolt ons will no longer yield enough return to make the car feel fresh and exciting to me. When I get bored with driving the car, its time to start looking, it can vary from as little as a year to about 3 years.

I'm feel the same way. I get the urge for a new car every year. I bought my truck last January and am looking to sell it now. Some people drink/smoke away a few hundred dollars a month. I'd rather put that money into cars. My family and friends gives me grief about my bike/cars, but once I explain that your average mid 20 year old spends the same amount of money and has nothing to show for it...they kind of understand. But I still get, "you could invest it anyway", and I say "and I could smoke too". That usually ends the conversation. The girlfriend hates my quick changing attitude because shes worried I'll get tired of her too. After 5 years I think she would understand that thats not going to happen.

I used to get them almost every month when I still had my Integra. It was almost like a period except with cars. Wanted a 240sx, first an S14 then an S13, then an MR2 Turbo, then an EK Civic, then an S2000.... but the new car urge stopped about a month ago.

Planning to keep this car at least until I get out of college or until its been paid off.

I get this urge at least once a week, and sometimes it's daily

2 weeks ago it was a 128i, this past week it's was used Legacy GT limited, and this week it's a higher mileage 05 RL...

The CL is paid for, so I'll probably keep it for another couple of years... but that doesn't stop me from dreaming/windowshopping...

Every few months.

My cousin who lives down the street just picked up a 98 540 for 9K. Now I want one.

I don't know how you do it. I've never come close to paying off a vehicle.

I tend to get this urge every 2 years... but rather then going out and getting the latest and greatest, I start modding the hell out of my current car.

In the past 6 mths, I've gotten: Aspec kit, RSB, white interior LED's, CAI, a roof spoiler, and a custom sound system. Now when i wake up every morning and look at her, it really feels like I just got a new car. The mods have quenched my thirst so I think I'm good to go for another 2-3 years.

At that point I'll end up getting the next gen TL. Not sure if they'll release a type S for 4th gen, but if Acura goes according to their previous release times, im on track to get 4th gen Type S.

I always have the urge to add a vehicle...I keep going back to the S2000. But sometimes I consider something small like a MINI or new Fit.

Urges to trade in the PT Cruiser for something else? 0.

Put money down, so you never finance the whole amount, and pay it off early, so you can save even more on the finance charges... I saved about $1800 by paying my CL off early.

Last car was paid off years before I got the CL too... You can save quite a down payment (to put down on the next car) when you don't have a monthly payment to make. I don't think I've made a car payment since 2003...

It's just transportation, and I don't like to make recurring payments of stuff that depreciates... I don't even have a cellphone since I hate monthly bills so much...

If I was used to making a car payment every month, I'd probably change cars a lot more often. But since I own 'em outright, it makes sense to ride the depreciation curve for awhile and dump 'em before they start creating repair bills.

I might buy used next time, so with the CL in trade, and some money down, I might be able to walk away with a "new to me" car with no monthly payment.

i get the urge constantly. I have subdued it for about 4 years. Your car is as old as mine is (was)...do it. I am sure you have put on some serious miles. When did you buy your car.

When I say do it, only do it if you can afford it. Not like people who keep buying a new car every 18 months (for the latest and greatest) and then sell it to downgrade so that they can afford the payments.

i get the urge every couple months, usually when I take a break from modding.

I've only had the TL for 15 mos. now and I bought it outright, so I'm gonna ride it out for another year or so.

used to have the urge...got a wife and had kids...no more urge... THEN i reacquired the urge, and this time the navy killed it with orders to japan.

so i'll let my car urges fester for the next 3 years, then come back and go crazy at the car lot

When you get here, you will find there are more than a few "car dealers" that will sell you something disposable, or someone will try to sell you somthing that sat in the "lemon lot" for a year. Resist.

Right now, early Skyline R34 4 doors are selling in the 6 - 8 G range. As long as it is a GT (RB25 motor, turbocharged), you can mod the hell out of it, then sell it when you leave. If you like the GT-R, forget about a R34, as they are starting at $25-30 G's and that's in bad shape.

Being in Mainland, the weather there is iffy, so 4wd may be the way to go. That is what I am doing down here on the rock......I'm going with a Legacy GT (wagon or sedan).

I have a serious 135 urge, I think end of 2008 I will make that urge a reality. I love the TSX still, but after 4 years I want more power.

Let's hope I get a nice raise next month.

I was content with my RSX-S. My girl hated it and I hated the attention it drew from ricers. Neither was the fault of the car itself. That was the longest I have ever had a car 2yrs and 8mos.

I want a house and even though home sales are somewhat stable in the west I may pick up a new car when I turn 25 this time next year and a condo or town home before the decade is up. I probably get the serious urge every 12-36 months.

Hahaha, yeah, I'm pretty bad. My daily driver gets swaped out about every 6 months.

Now, my toy cars are bought to keep forever. When it comes to toys, nothing ever gets traded in or sold-new ones are simply added to the fleet. Hence why my new house has a five car garage and a couple of lifts

Talking Try a used R34 for a new ride

Forget this....This is $50 G, and its a 1999

However, if you really want the "sports car" that Americans can only dream of but cant fork over for the one above, then this is about $11.5K and it is a RB25 Turbo (very very modable (is that a word))

And for about $8.8K, you could have this, but I think its NA:

As long as you have a requirement to only seat 4, you're OK. The 2 door Skylines are not set up for 5. For that you need a 4 door.

So the new car urge was subdued today after driving my car again after having to drive a hunk of crap for the last two days. If you want to make a slow car slower, add full face chrome 20s.
