New Bike!

I guess this can go in car talk. It's a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250 bought new back in May. I'm 15 so that explains the lack of cc's (in Texas 250 is the max. number of cc's one can ride until they're 16, then it is unrestricted) but 250 is enough for me right now especially considering this is my first bike (ridden dirtbikes for the past 6 years though). I took a 36 hour classroom course to get my driving permit, then an 8 hour motorcycle safety course to be able to get my motorcycle license. I will admit that my dad bought me the bike, but I payed for my helmet and jacket. Anyway the bike has about 1000 miles on it now. The break in period was really hard to follow, but I did it. It was so tempting to explore that 13k redline, but I restrained myself.

I'm still so happy and can't wait to ride it more. It has been raining here pretty much everyday for the past two weeks so I'm waiting for this weekend when it's supposed to clear up a little bit. Anyway that was a lot of rambling so here are the only two decent pics that I have of it right now. They were taken back in May.

looks good. that's a great starter bike, though you'll be selling it to upgrade very soon.

Wow, so you can get a motorcycle license when you're 15 in Texas?

Anyhow, it's very responsible of you to start with the 250 Kawi and ride with a helmet/jacket. I wish more of the squids where I live would do the same, but hey, some people need to feel the experience of having road rash cleaned.

The great thing about the 250, you can find them off of craiglist for anywhere between $1700-$3000, ride the hell outta them, and then sell them again for almost the same price. Good luck, have fun, and ride safe.

Thank's for all the nice comments! I can really tell the difference in power between my dad's 1100 BMW and my 250, but this bike is sooo light and tossable, I can catch back up with him in the corners. The best thing is that I got 75 MPG on my last tank of gas. And it's good because the tank only holds 4 gallons and it runs on regular gas, so it only costs about $10 to fill it up.

In regards to the new vs. used thing, my dad was looking at used ones at first and found a couple, but ended up going new because of the warranty and with the deals that Kawasaki was offering on new bikes at the time, it really wasn't that much of a difference in price between new and used. And yes this bike does hold its value well so you can get much of what you spent on a new one back when you go to sell it.
