Need Hybrid SUV

Our family is considering an upgrade from our 96' landcrusier to a highlander hybrid or lexus rx400h

Does anyone have some insight on this- has anyone driven them???

currently, we have a 2003 Suburban z71, 2004 Acura TL anthricite w/navi and a 1996 toyota landcrusier

thanks

Quite a price difference in the 2. Have a father in law with the hybrid Highlander and he loves it (he was on the list for the lexus but was told 6 more months of waiting).

Is luxury or money more important to you? Both are great cars, and mighty quick as well.

I third that motion!!! ^^^^

If hadnt just purchased the Murano the week before the Taste of Lexus event I attended, I would have put a deposit on the 400h instead.

I'm not sure how much performance matters in this discussion but that thing easily outaccelerates my Murano and could probably run even with the FX45 in a straightline; although I'm certain the FX (and probably my Murano) could easily outhandle it.

Too bad they go for about $55k.

I drove the Highlander two days ago, very nice, smooth, so quiet I can't tell if it's on or not...
Navigation was the exact same system as our Escalade (which I like very much)
All in all, I thought it was a great ride, but fully loaded it was $47k. Too much in my opinion, but I think all hybrids are...

We were on the waiting list for an RX400h, then lexus said that they were coming out with a GS450h and possibly even a LS600h. We decided to pull our deposit and see what comes out in the next year. You can't go wrong with a Lexus or a Toyota, they are built just as well, if not better than Acura's and Hondas. Its too bad Honda hasn't built a hybrid MDX or Pilot, I would be all over that.

seeing as you have z71 on one of your suv's....

rx400h is nice but it can't compete with a 96' landcruiser if you're looking for off road capabilties. Will this be a grocery getter or will it be taken off road?

How long do they plan on keeping it. Think at this point, until hybrids really flood the market and prices come down, I'd rather look at a 35-40k standard engine vehicle instead of a 35-40k hybrid highlander.

we are not looking for an off-road vehicle, we simply got a great deal for the z71 which had alot of feature VS the Denali we looked at and even the escalade.

the quote from our dealer (hybrids highlander) $34k base model $36k 4x4 base model $42k limited model hybrid all features

06 models, NOOOOO rebates except the 2,000$ tax break for hybrids......

Are you sure you need a hybrid suv? Try looking at a diesel Touareg.

w0rd. What do you want a hybrid SUV for? If you are after gas savings, hybrid SUVs arent going to help you much. If anything, look at a minivan if you need the space.

hybrid suv from toyota/lexus's rating are 31 city, 28 highway

minivans are out of the question (family hates them)

friend has a VW and it's upkeep is expensive....... even a new one is expensive
