Navi worth getting with the Z?
I'm looking to get a New 08 Z by fall. any Z owners with stock navi can recommend the system? I'm looking at a Enthusiast trim but I really don't like the empty center compartment? aftermarket navi any better?

If I'm not mistaken, ones that come in Z should be identical to ones in Infiniti. And from what I've read, infiniti navi is questionable depending on the users.
As far as getting enthusiast, isn't it the base model so you'll be basically paying more for navi option? If so, did you compare upgrading to next model vs. enthusiast w/ navi? Sometimes if the dollar amount isn't so much different it would be better to upgrade to the next model and get other features. Then again Ii'm not sure if the next model offeres navi as standard.
I'm not a big fan of aftermarket flip. One, you can hide OEM with the flip out screen. Two, warranty would be easier to get from Nissan then going thru aftermarket manufacturer.

I used to own a 2003 Z and the Nav was excellent. If it's been updated its probably even better. Unless you're hung up on touch screen of course. Personally I find it easier to use a joystick interface like the Z has than using a touch screen. It's difficult for me to keep my finger steady on a touch screen while driving. I currently have a Nuvi 650 and my old Z's nav was better...

this is hard....the stock navi looks very nice but then again everyone tells me that the aftermarket has more features. I saw a used 03 with navi for about $24k with 48k miles. since I'm on a budget my gf wants to help me out and she wanted me to get a new Z with navi plus the HR motor seems sweet but I insist on buying it on my own. she makes more yearly income then me I don't know......pretty much I'll be ending up with the enthusiast trim. but I can't stand the center compartment. wish the trim had navi option

Here's what you do. Go to a Best Buy or Circuit City and look at all their navigation systems and take your time, find out all the features and see which one you like best, the in-dash ones or the mount-on-dash/windshield ones. If you have any questions ask the salesperson, then when you're done politely thank them and tell them you need to think about it. Then go to a dealer and try out a Z with the navi, and do the same thing.
OEM in-dash is usually overpriced IMO but you get the chance to finance it along with the car so it doesn't hit you so hard. Aftermarket in-dashes are nice though because they usually look better than the OEM systems, offer more options, and more features for a lower price. The mountable ones are convenient/a hassle depending on how you look at it, mounted means you can use it in several different cars instead of buying a new one whenever you get a new car, but I highly recommend removing both the mount and GPS unit from the car when you leave. It also wouldn't hurt to use a microfiber towel or something to wipe the circle of condensation that the mount usually leaves behind.
Good luck.

Do everything Costco said except ask the salesperson for help....They hire complete idiots at Best Buy and Circuit City. The sales people don't know shit. Also, *********NEVER********** let them do your install. We get so many people coming into our shop saying how BB/CC fucked up their installation and we have to go back and fix their mistakes. I'm talking cross wiring, twisting wires together instead of using cremps, shorting out various interior instruments, breaking interior panels....you name it. Find a local shop that specializes in car audio...
