I think the painted housing only looks good on the pre-facelift 996, and those need all the help they can get. The post facelift 996 lights get that chrome trim that is too close to the lens, I don't think there's any way to paint it and make it disappear like on the pre-facelift ones.

^ True. I've also considered the much more simple tint route. I like it b/c it's easy, less expensive, reversible, and keeps the 996 look while updating it a bit...

While I think you needthat conversation, I get that it's a lot of money. At first, I thought the stick on plastic looked great, the black housing looked ok but the tinted looks great.

Jealous of all of you P car owners.

Interior pictures and 3/28 car meet

Not really visible from these cell phone pictures but the car has yellow stitching and carbon fiber trim.

My torture chamber. I can confirm it will fit up to small human adult females.

Fire extinguisher. Car gets dirty quick because of the open roof.

Team yellow.

I don't know how often you are driving it but 911's have some wackiness with their key remotes and issues with dead batteries preventing the hood and trunk from opening (because of an electronic releases). There is a back up method that Porsche set up but many times people don;t know about it.

Here's a good instructional to keep "stand by" mode and dead battery frustration to a minimum.

Yeah I have gone through this nightmare. My alternator went out one day. Finally the battery was totally discharged. I couldn't even pop the hood because of the electronic release. So a quick google showed me the footwell thing.

Another thing, that I like, is the car goes into a "hibernation" state if you don't drive it for a week or so. The car won't respond to any fob inputs. You have to put the key into a door and manually turn it to wake it up. This is to slow the car's self-discharge rate. My friend has a GTR and his battery will die every month or so like clockwork if he doesn't drive the car.

Welcome to the club. Mine's not a TT but it's still fun to drive. What's nice is that you have the bulletproof motor to not worry about the ims.
I was debating on getting a tt or a late 90's 911 for the next car. An addition to the garage, not a replacement.

These cars are fun as hell, enjoy!

Same here. Luckily I read about it before it happened so I wasn't freaking out when the FOB didn't work. I also trickle charge the battery once every couple of weeks, so it hasn't given me any issues on the battery front.

If you don't have a trickle charger I highly recommend it... just as a fail safe...

Porsches are electrical vampires, they suck down energy while doing nothing, especially convertibles with their extra alarm features.

Personally, I'd recommend a Porsche charge o mat 2. Easy to use, factory recommended.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a trickle charger leftover from my motorcycling days. I used to have it on my 370Z because I did not drive that car very much. But the 911's backseat means it is a lot more flexible and I've taken it out much more regularly. If I feel like it has been sitting awhile (like a month), I put the charger on it. But it only takes about 2-3 hours to charge back up. So the drain has not been bad at all.

Contrast with my dad's previous BMW 740i... Geez that thing would have a dead battery every 2 weeks of inactivity.

^ Yeah, I haven't found the drain to be nearly as bad as I thought. A few times in the winter I would go 2-3 weeks w/o driving and w/o charging and it was fine.

Maybe because my experience is with showroom cars that aren't being driven but are having their doors, hoods and trunks opened repeatedly. Charge o mat 2's kept us from looking like schmucks with broken cars

^ Yeah, I can imagine in a showroom the batteries are drained quite a bit from people being in and out all day.

I love that Charge O Mat, but by cigarette lighter doesn't work. I think the previous owner ran the iPad Mini power from it... so I just have to use an old fashioned trickle charger from my racing kart...

Isn't there a 2nd power port near the fuse box in the drivers side footwell? Maybe I'm thinking 997, or maybe my memory is going foggy in the autumn years

My cig lighter doesn't work either. I haven't gone through the fuses yet. Sounds like a common problem then.

Hmmm, passenger side footwell?

*edit*

997s definitely have a 12 volt in the passenger side footwell. Drivers side (as I originally said) doesn't make sense, it would be in the way while driving. Still not sure if the 996 had it but it's worth a peek.
