My friend just bought a new bmw 325i steptronic and already tranny problems

My friend got a new bmw 325i exactly one week ago. He has less than 500 km on it. Already, he has transmission problems. After sitting overnight when he starts the car, the tranny will not engage in auto mode. Even though it's in D, it just revs in neutral. After warming up a bit, then it will engage.

So, my friend decided to see what he could find on the bmw forums. Lo and behold...there are pages and pages devoted to the steptronic issue...owners dubbed it the sliptronic

It seems to be a problem across the entire 3-series line.

No recall, but from what I've read so far it seems that they have identified the problem and have solved it...unlike acura.

Maybe I will go back to BMW after Acura...seems to be the lesser of two evils...haha.

If they resolved it why haven't they fixed them all?

Maybe BMW is having a competition with Acura to see how many transmissions they can replace?

Yes they do.. But their trannies are usually pretty solid.

Pretty interesting list of cars they supply this tranny to:

BMW 3-Series
BMW 3-Series Sedan and Wagon
BMW 3-Series All Wheel Drive
BMW 5-Series
BMW X5 Sport Utility
BMW Z3 Roadster
Cadillac CTS
OPEL Omega
ROVER Range Rover

That's what I thought. I have never heard of issues with Bimmer auto trannies.
