My first scratch on the 2011 Mazda3

Ouch, I was putting on my new plates in the rain and well the screwdriver slipped and nicked my not one month old car. Does anyone know the color code for the dark portion of the Silver Liquid 3? Does anyone recommend Dr. Colorchip?

Its is black or Graphite Mica color I need to order? I posted this on the 3 forum but that 3 forum is pretty dead.

It doesn't look too deep. Don't worry about it.
If it doesn't catch your fingernail when you go over it lightly, just use a quality scratch remover.

Ditto the above posts. Try something like Scratch-X first. It'll probably do it.

clay bar also works if the scratch isn't too deep

^clay bar works only on paint transfer which this isn't.

try a scratch remover such as scratch X and it should help with the surface areas.

Paintscratch.com says that your car could be " Gunmetal Blue Metallic Clearcoat" or "Graphite Metallic Clearcoat" for the body of the car.

is that really a different color opposed to what is on the upper area of the picture or is it the lighting?

FYI paintscratch.com has the color codes to make buying paint easier!

Thanks for all the suggetions, I trust you guys more than the dealer's parts dept cause they will recommemend the oem touch up paint and from past exp oem touch up never works well.

The scratched part is different color than the body of the car, its the same color as that big smiley face on the mazda3. Light black or graphite, take your pick. I'll try the scratch x 2.0 version first.

This doesn't look like a bad scratch. Touch up will not help much. U will have to get a professional touch up guys to work on this. I'm sure it will come off with some wet sanding and buffing

Next time have the dealer put your new plates on....like they do for all the ladies....because clearly you can't handle that kind of labor/work.

The body shop says its too deep for bluffing out, they want 400-500 to fix it. They want to take the whole bumper off and paint it all.

Forget that I am going to do dr. Colorchip.

That body shop is full of crap! Any good paint and dent guy (even the mobile ones) can spot repair stuff like that. That body shop is being extra careful like most now. Everything is remove and replace nowadays. No real skill hardly.

Repainting the whole bumper will also devalue your car because when people see an entire repainted panel they feel it was involved in an accident. Touch it up and leave it as it is. If you drive your car everyday its pretty much impossible not to accumulate scratches over a period of time anyway.

Now that you scratched it, you won't have buyers remorse, and feel the need to return it and slum it up by buying a CTS-V.

You can probably fix that with turtle waxes scratch kit. It comes with a clear pen that fills it in.
Google or YouTube it

How the hell would I know? Am I his neighbor?

My cousin has a Z4 and an Expedition. Guess which one is his weekend car? His Expedition. Z4 to go to work, Expedition to drive the family around.

I drive 20k a year so its not lightly used.

Someday I'll be rich enough to get my dream car a new GTI with DSG.

As Murphy's Law would have it I scratched my 2 week old Accent just like my old Mazda3 Went to eat at McDonalds and this car has such a low front bumper that is nicked and scraped the bottom of the bumper. I knew it was kind of low by eyeballing it.
So instead of doing this again I went and put on a front end curb sensor that beeps once you are 18 inches from an object.

Oh I curbed it against that concrete bumper thing. I have no idea how you Miata, Z and Corvette drivers do it.

Maybe I should have bought a Kia Soul. Lots of room and slight less MPG and similar price tag.

When I usually get a new car, I almost always scratch it on purpose, this way I can get it out of my system and rest easy
