My fiance's X-mas gift (SUV Haters Beware!)
As some of you know, we just had our second child a few weeks ago. My fiance was unhappy about her 06' Maxima SE because it turns like crap, has a difficult time making it up our driveway without scraping, and she wanted more room. We looked at the new 07' Yukons a few months ago and she fell in love but found it too expensive at 52K.
Anyways, I went to the dealership about a week ago and ended up trading in my GTO for a new 07' Yukon. It's pretty much fully loaded minus a sunroof and NAV- too options she didn't want. I did add a rear seat 10" DVD player, a Denali front grill and chrome door handles.
She was out shopping when I brought it home so I backed it in the garage and put a big red bow on it. When she got home and opened the garage, I could read her lips saying "What the f***?" It was absolutely priceless!
My Daughter enjoying the new ride!
Before I bought the Yukon, I looked at the new Acadia's. The interior is pretty much the same although they are said to have more room. I just knew she would not like the exterior because it doesn't look tough enough. I tend to agree with her. Anyways, the Yukon rides and turns great. With cyclinder deactivation, the truck is rated at 16-21 mpg which is pretty good. Also, we plan to get a boat next year so the towing capacity of 7,700 lbs is nice. And before you ask, there was no way in hell she was going to drive a minivan!

^^^^ Great gift....how much did you get off the sticker of the Yukon? I was at the GMC/Caddy dealer two weeks ago and they were advertising 5K off the Yukons and 3K off the Escalades. My wife is very similar to yours and wants to upsize...although we'd definitely the Denali or Escalade. I do want to drive the Acadia since it is the same size as the Denali (with MUCH better MPG- 17/24).
Let me know how the third row not folding into the floor does you....that may be a dealbreaker to me....I can't believe that GM did not engineer it better. I don't want my 120lb wife having to worry about taking the seats out or losing room to just being able to roll the 3rd row up against the 2nd row.
I'd pay to see my wife open up the garage to see her new ride in there as a surprise too!!!!!

I wasn't worried about the second row captains chairs folding because they are going to have carseats attached permanently for the next few years. The third row is no problem. With just one latch, they are easily folded flat or up against the 3rd row. They can be taken out if needed but that would require a little muscle.

I'd be doing exactly what you're doing on seating...two kids seats in the captains chairs and 3rd row for grandparents/friends/etc. Let me know how it works for you over time....I'm still not enthused that the 3rd row does not fold flat.

So how much you get for the GTO? Why not trade in the Maxima.. wouldnt it have been better in terms of resale value? I just hope you didnt lose too much on the GTO.
Either way, that was really nice of you to buy her this thing. Nice work man and i also hope you feeling better health wise.

I thought about trading in the Maxima but really, I need 4 Doors. Getting 2 car seats in and out of the GTO was a pain in the ass. Besides the fact that I have a long commute now and driving a 6 speed in stop and go can be frustrating. Also, the GTO hasn't been the same since the accident.
Anyways, I've kinda been wanting a 4-door that was comfortable, sporty, and more economical. The Maxima was right under my nose!!! And I must say, I really enjoy driving it This just makes me want a 07 G35 even more. She will be making the payments so I'll just wait until I'm bored of the Maxima.

Check the specs... the Yukon has a 39 ft turning circle and the Maxima is 40 ft. While trying to park in the real world, it is that much more obvious.

Envoy is a older truck based SUV (think Trailblazer, Saab 9-7x, and Buick Rainer) while the Acadia is a brand new car-based CUV (along w/it's siblings the Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave). The Acadia will be the same interior size as a Tahoe/Yukon but smaller on the outside and look a bit smaller than the Tahoe/Yukon. The Acadia seems to be meant for people who want a large vehicle but don't need the truck capabilites (and truck negatives like MPG and handling) and don't want to drive a minivan. A CUV is aimed to slot btwn a minivan and a SUV.
A Denali is just the highest end trim level of a GMC. They have Denali's for the Envoy, Yukon, Sierra (think Chevy Silverado). No word yet on a Acadia Denali but you can bet that it'll be on it's way....likely for the '08 model year.
