My Buick at the paint shop.

I was back in Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago and grabbed a couple few pictures of my car. It's been there almost 2 months! The car should be absolutely straight when he's done. It's been blocked almost 10 times, so it better be. It looks great and not going to want to drive it after I get it back. I'll probably cry when I get that first scratch. It also has about 1k miles on the fresh rebuild.

It's going to be nice! If the car had it's original paint, I'm sure you know Buick painted the Regals in lacquer, requiring a complete strip before repainting with something a little more current.

Post more pictures when it's finished. I'm sure she'll look great.

Thanks! I'll definitely put together a little photo shoot when she's done. The car was completely stripped like you said. I had a hard time deciding whether I wanted to paint the car in the first place. They're worth a lot more with the original paint and this one wasn't really all that bad.

Does your GN still have the lacquer paint?

My '86, the one purchased new, still retains it's original lacquer except for the driver's door and the bumper fillers. It's has a couple spiderwebs on the roof and trunk lid, but has aged tremendously well. It's always been cold water washed, and even then only twice a year.

The three '87s I've had throughout the years were all repainted. The biggest expense removing the original lacquer.

How have your bumper fillers held up? Are they becoming dry and now cracking?

It seems like 90% of these cars have been painted. Your '86 is one to hang onto. A lot of people have told me these cars will really gain some value in the next 10 years.

Believe it or not, my front bumper fillers still look great. The rears however, warped right by the gas tank lid. I replaced those with fiberglass, which needed some cutting and sanding for them to sit right.

Thanks, and nice Skylark! Is that a '72 and does it have the 455?

The T-Type looks nice. I always loved that body style, and the T was the sleeper, poor man's Grand National.

I've often wondered how the aftermarket fiberglass fillers were. I managed to find some NOS fillers last year. Although factory and in original packaging, they still needed some work as they had been manufactured some years ago. It took quite a bit of prep work before painting to have them just right.

After I installed them and replaced the bumpers:

Skylark looks nice juicebox. I believe that supertrooper had a nice '72 at one time.

It sounds like all the aftermarket fillers need work. Even the ABS ones aren't perfect. Your car looks incredibly good with the original paint. Mine was a bit more dull before the respray.

Thought I'd bump this thread. It was posted on Aug of '09, it's now Sep of '10 and the car is still at the body shop. It's been such a headache. I swear to god there's no such thing as an honest body man.

To keep it short, the passenger door was still wavy after they told me it was finished. This was in Jan or Feb. I told them to fix it with no putty/body filler. Three months go by and I'm told they can't do it. I found a straight G body door in the junkyard for $400 and drove it 500 miles to the body shop.

Today I spoke with them on the phone and again, I'm told the car is finished. Hopefully next month I'll have time to pick it up and have it hauled back to NC.

Damn...........

Long time to wait. Most Regal panels were rather poor quality to begin with. How did they strip the car? Hell, if I was closer I would have straightened it for you.

1StGenCL:
Thanks for the compliment. The car has held up remarkably well over the years. It still hasn't seen any warm water, which I think has contributed to preserving it's factory lacquer finish.

Terry's car is about as perfect as they get. Not many survived in that condition.

From what I saw and what he and I spoke about, it was sanded down completely. It looked as if the previous owner had hit something with the mirror, which buckled the door slightly.

The first time I was told to pick up the car, I paid the balance on the paint job. I suppose that since the guy got his money, he was in no hurry to finish it. Lesson learned. Next time I won't pay until everything is perfect.

Buick Nationals are Oct 20-23rd. I Plan to have it ready for the event.

GL with getting the paint finished. Why is it at a body shop so far away?

Terry, you really need to post up your collection. We get bits and pieces of what you own, but I bet there's a hell of a lot more in that garage. Post pics!

Thanks, I moved to Detroit for 8 months in '08 and had the car stored at my parents house.

I've posted it before, but here's my dads '87 Turbo Buick Limited.

Beautiful car Blazin. White is such an elegant colour on any Regal.

I agree, especially with the black-out package. There aren't a lot of W02 Limited's. My favorite thing about these cars is how fast they can be made for so little money. My dad has about $2k in mods and it ran an 11.88 his first time at the track.

Previous owner put the '86 T Type badge on the dash.

Alky Control kit,
Scan Master
Pipes exhaust
CK Transmission kit
Hotchkis Sways
KYB Gash Shocks
Replaced origional springs with Kirban Performance Springs
3.5" Aluminum Radiator
Boost Controller
Boss Rims 18x8.5, 18x9.5 with a 245 up front and 285 out rear.
Hawk Brakes and brand new rebuilt Calipers
Chipped, Tuned and various other small things by Jack Cotton from Cottons Performance

Beautiful looking car! It so nice to see one with it's original lacquer and not childishly cut up.

Nice pics. Your father's combination is my all time favourite for a TR. White, pillowy blue seats, and a column shift. If he ever considers selling it, please let me know.

Not true, my guy is awesome. He's done work on several of the family cars and we've been more than happy with his work every time. Great prices and prompt service. He would've had the car back to you long ago.

Very nice! I love them in white and that's a very clean white one!

My father's DD is a white '87 T. Personally I think he ruined it with black bumpers. We had another '86 T-type in white with body color bumpers which looked surprisingly good.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten rid of the powerdisaster brakes yet.

I've already posted picures of mine and my father's so I won't bore anyone with those right now but we have an ok collection. I have a ticking timebomb stock block GN with the '87 drivetrain. My father has the '87 T which goes 12.6@109mph in pure DD trim, literally driving it from work to the track with no changes in boost, fuel, or tire pressures. He'a also got an '84 GN with a 276" stage II engine.

I know this is old but it looks great. I found out the problem with fiberglass fillers the hard way, besides the prep work required. I had someone bump my car while it was sitting at Sonic. A 2mph hit ended with fiberglass all over the ground. I have (or I should say had before my car got stripped) the urethane ones which worked really well but had a weird "dip" that was only noticable when the car was freshly washed.

This car I might not fuel with the engine running.

They're seat controls. The limiteds did have lights on the doors (and rear quarter panels if I remember right) but not on the seats.

It does look pretty good, and it's been maintained meticulously. I'd love to have some seat time in that

I think I see seat controls on the side of the seat bottom, but I was referring to the white part on the side of the backrest.
