Cool story and a little more interesting than just flying out picking it up and driving home. Certainly much better than flying out, picking it up and having an engine fire on the way home........ Congrats and good luck going forward.

Great car, great story to tell, and thanks for sharing your stories with us!

Very interesting to hear that dealers can get things wrong and that such a small mistake could cause a big damage, glad it worked out fairly well in the end though.

Thanks for sharing and congrats on the acquisition. Since it was determined that fire was a result of an error on the dealer's part, why did the seller have to go through insurance as opposed to holding the dealer responsible to get it fixed?

I'm not positive the dealer actually did the battery swap. I know he had it taken to a dealer to have everything checked out, but it sounded like the battery was done before the dealer inspection. He may have done it himself, or had a friend do it for him. He likely would have done what you suggested and took it back to the dealer to make it right if they did it.

Thanks. It helps when you look at wrecked cars for a living. I've seen all sorts of things happen due to little slip ups. One lady totaled her new car simply because she forgot to set the parking brake. She lives on a rather large hill, & well, you can guess I'm sure. Things happen & it is what it is. Getting upset rarely helps. The seller really was a great guy, which also helps!

Thanks. Love It! It's like driving a big GoKart, Haha. It's a blast. Very comfortable on the freeway & long distance. But this car was made for windy mountain roads. Which luckily where I live has i spades!

Looking for more episodes in the future. Very cool that you showed your search process, sometimes just being socially connected and being an enthusiast can reap rewards!

My NSX delivery day was DEFINTELY not that eventful other than the blubbering I did over giving up my S2000. Kamlung can attest.

Thanks for sharing the story, Josh.

I LOL'd when the dealer offered my S2000 up for $25k. I think they finally sold it for something under $20k.

Just enough to make it worth my while, only $2k less than what I bought it for.

What's also awesome is that the NSX seller was definitely an upstanding guy and did NOT turn this into a negative experience. I can easily see other car sellers turning this into a very bad experience.

TimeLapse of NSX Fire Damage Repairs
Time Lapse Video of the fire damage repairs. Dealer replaced the battery, blower box, & had to drop the fuel tank for the positive battery cable.
