Lightbulb Most expensive car in the world?

The other thread got me thinking...what is the most expensive car in the world, either production or antique?

adding antique cars in the mix will vary your results. Antique cars could vary in value year to year. Production cars at least have an MSRP which would be a more stable number to base it off of.

Very difficult but the answer will be in the collector region not production cars. It could vary day to day and year to year as Barret Jackson, BUT my guess would be the Ferrari 250 GTO, they have traded hands at over 4 million but not sure what the current market would be. The old concept cars are making a huge showing in the last year or so and it is hard to gauge a 1 off car like that though. Old Ferrari's often do very well since they have low production (39 in the case of the GTO) and most have an excellent racing history, both important to bring the huge numbers.

Antique French car's have a killer following, its also a very private circle of collectors who seldom sell - these cars don't make it to auction often they usually exchange hands privately and for a HUGE sum of money. I recall a few years ago a very rare Bugatti sold for some insane figure like 15 million - if I have time later I'll search for the article I know I still have it here some place.

You are correct, I had forgotten that "long dead" marque. There are probably a lot of cars sold that we never see the numbers for and I wouldn't doubt some have sold for over the 20 million mark, but by buyers and sellers who prefer that their business not be public.

I think it would be one of those vintage Alfa Romeo's designed when Enzo Ferrari worked for them back in the 30's - something like an 8C or a 6C.

A Cisitalia would also be way up there. It's the only automobile that qualified for a place in New York's metropolitan museum of art.

Duesenbergs sell for millions of dollars, but probably not the most expensive car.

Do you mean currently in production, or the most expensive car sold...ever.
