Morning traffic report...courtesy of the Acura RL

I was watching the Amazing Race this evening, and saw a new RL commercial--at least, it was the first time I've seen it. Here's how it goes:

It's early in the morning, and a man is getting ready to go to work when he's watching the local morning show on TV. While yapping away like normal, they break away to the traffic...except, there's nothing to talk about because the traffic is HORRIBLE. Next thing you see is another man driving his RL on a windy, hillside side road, right next to the "parking lot" freeway. This is the spot where the live-traffic Nav system, SH-AWD, and 300 hp are bragged about. You're then taken back to the man in his home, watching the TV hosts joke around about the horrible traffic. And then, the glorious moment--a panning view of the RL (in celestial silver, I think) parked in a rock driveway.

REALLY great commercial, I think.

Unfortunately not really close to how real life works.

Do you really expect advertising to be reality-based?

I'd watch even less commericals and would be tightening up the noose as we speak

That ad is definitely good marketing. RPA, which does most of Acura's advertising, has been doing a pretty good job as of late. They must have hired some new talent.

Traditionally Acura advertising is not impressive.

I thought it was great...it was actually kind of humorous. Before I even saw the actual car, I thought, "Gee...that would make a GREAT RL commercial," because of the morning show traffic.

I thought it was great...and it actually felt like it represented the Acura brand well, because it was a rather upscale, yet casual, advertisement.

It should trickle down to the TL and TSX soon enough - most of the hardware behind it is already installed in the TL and TSX.

Actually its available to anyone with a nav. The system isn't Acuras, its Xm satellite radios property which honda/acura have stake in, just like Sirius satellite radio is releasing their live navigation traffic updates.

is it me, or was there only a little traffic on the freeway (on the lanes going in the same direction as the RL)?

yep, the acura commercials are getting better. some of them could be a little more creative/hardcore, but i guess it depends on the ride and the respective demographics.
