I believe that was the one I last purchased maybe 2 months ago. Have not installed it yet.

Why? Is there a problem with this filter?

I've been using the M1-104 for years now. They recently changed the packaging and the name to Extended Performance, but it's still the same stuff.

No, it is a different filter, entirely. Not sure how you made that impression.

The element has now been changed with a higher efficiency element that also has a higher capacity, despite the usage of less media. This filter, and the Amsoil EaO, are currently the leaders in the market in terms of efficiency and capacity over very long service intervals.

The Extended Performance oil is a more robust version of the regular SuperSyn, and until this month, lacked the GF-4 approval rating for fuel-efficiency and API SM rating.

Nothing wrong with the filter, was just curious who was using one. Personally have a hard time justifying the price for one though.

You say that about everthing.

So you made this thread to tell people they are overpaying?

No, I made this thread just for curiosity...lol.

Its called "overkill," it won't hurt anything but your wallet...

One can use a Napa Gold filter and probably achieve the same results, but at lower efficiency. (However, the lower efficiency is unlikely to have a noticeable effect on engine life)

How much is the Napa Gold Filter?

The M1 Extended Performance filter I buy for my GF's car is $9.99.
I don't know what kind of budget you are on, but a few extra bucks for a filter every 3-4 months really isn't gonna "hurt my wallet" much.

how does the mobil 1 filters compare with the OEM filters?

just last longer? or provides significantly more performance than OEM?

I used OEM filters. I get them for 4.88 for my Accord 4-popper.
I can get anyone discount on OEM filters.

And why are you using 0W40?

IF I wanted a thick 30 weight and lived in Canadd, I'd be using Esso XD-3 0W30, which costs 1/2 as much as Motul and delivers equal performance...

The Napa Gold or Wix oil filters are better constructed than the Honda labeled, "Honeywell" ones. Filter efficiency should be a bit better with the Napa Gold or Mobil 1 filter, but I'm not sure if the Canadians can get Mobil 1 filters. However, for your drain interval, I wouldn't bother using any of the "super extended-life" filters such as the Amsoil Nanotech, as they wouldn't make much of a difference for the short service interval.

the esso XD-3 is only available in a few places up here, and the motul 0W-40 is 100% syn and they have the ester addictives of the 300V oil, it is a true performance oil

a few of my frds put on the car and they all love it, a little pricy at 12 bucks a liter but you can also go to the track with this oil

i have it for 2 oil changes and i love it so much

I'm only interested if they're the "Filtech" ones.

And why would you need a performance oil for street use ??? XD3 is also 100% syn, and its formulated for diesel applications as well, so it'd have a more robust anti-wear additive.

a little pricy at 12 bucks a liter but you can also go to the track with this oil
Yes...that's 3x cost of XD3. You can go to the track with ANY oil...preferably a syn of course...

i have it for 2 oil changes and i love it so much
How about the fuel economy...

I've been wanting to try those K and N oil filters. I like the looks of them because they have the 1 inch nut on the bottom. you hit with a socket and you know it's tight. I knowa filter wrench can do the same but I'd feel better with a wrench or socket.

i do track my car, so i need a good oil on my car...and it's proven

full syn not = 100% syn, if the XD3 is that good, then all of them are using it on the track right? u r a oil analyst but u dunno which oil would produce more hp at the wheel, unless u have dyno them with different kind of oil

fuel economy wise it is same with 5W-20 and 5W-30 that i was running, no difference

Now that you tell me that you track your car, I'd be using RL 5w-20 for maximum HP and protection. RL 5w30 would also be good if you feel uneasy about using a 5w20 during track use.

XD3 is good for daily drivers and maybe occassional track use.

I don't believe a 0W40 would yield the same fuel efficiency as a 5w20, 5w30, or 10w30. If it did, the OEMs would be all over it.

Before you drag me into the 5w20 "is not thick enough" business, the HT/HS of RL 5w20 is better than most 5w30 synthetics, and the HT/HS of RL 5w30 is equivalent to your Motul 0w40, considering that 0w40 engine oils will shear...

Redline has a good line of products but I also run Amsoil 5W-30 for summer and that will do the job as well, and costs a little cheaper

believe it or not, i have been getting the same mileage all the time, and i keep track of my records...with all hwy in winter i always avg 10L/100km and city for 12L/100km, so it's all good

if i track in summer i would definitely use higher than 5W-20, probably 5W-30 or 5W-40 for protection. if u use 5W-20 to track u need to drain them out a lot sooner. i was told to use the Motul 300V 15W-50 to track, but obviously it's too much

i dunno if 0W-40 will shear...but if it is then all the porsche have the same problem? even the carerra GT uses 0W-40

I had a prelude with over 275whp and it was my play car/track car. It never used a oil that weight (5w30 is all it got) the motor had well over 150k on it and the motor never used a drop of oil. It would still be running to this day if it hadnt bounced off a wall at 80mph.
All oils are trackable. Unless its a FULL time race car standard oil will give you the protection you need. Being a weekend warrior doesnt mean you need to use what teh "racers" use.
