Might be a repost but it's a good video.

Dang...that sucks. Seemed pretty good as a driver with all the drifting and stuff...but too bad he crashed. It hurt to see that car roll like that.

so does driving like that just burn up your tires each race? I would imagine they would be shot after a few laps.

I don't know why people think drifting is cool. Drifting is the slowest way around the track. I guess smoke shows and slow times are cool for some people.

Good video!

Being good driver is one thing. But that guy was being a dick on the track. Maybe be if he wasn't such an ass, he wouldn't have crashed...

Drifting is more of an art/science/style than racing. If you are on a track and will be racing, then drifting is very bad, it will slow you down a lot. But in a drift event, like a drift contest or drift race, it's cool. I love drifting, i think once you can master the drift, you can finally be one with your car.

IMHO drifiting doesn't take much talent at all. If you really knew how to drive, you wouldn't do it because it causes you to run slower lap times.

that doesn't make much sense to me... around sharper turns it would help you run quicker times through the turn b/c exit speed as well as entrance speed into the turn can be higher. I think yho is mistaken.

Somebody needs to go watch a Saturday night local dirt track stock car race and THEN tell us that drifting makes you slow.

I just want to point out that different types of races have different methods. Obviously on dirt tracks, it's better to drift.

But on a road course, drifting is just a smoke show.

Drifting and dirt racing are two entirely two different things. This is why people think it's cool, they have no clue on how to drive fast. Without going into great details....The proper way to take a turn is brake, apex, then track out. You want the car to be neutral thru the corner. Oversteer (which ricers call drifiting) causes you to lose exit speed. Watch Indy Cars, F1, or even street cars at a road course. They don't drift....

Read: Going Faster, The Art of Race car driving by Skip Barber and Danny Sullivan. It's all explained there.

When you drift, your LOSING traction. That equates to SLOWER track times. Do you ever see NASCAR cars drifting? If you do, they are usually the ones getting passed.

no shit, that's why "bigman" already stated that it's more of an art/science/style. it's not used conventionally in racing. and if drifting doesn't take much talent at all, id like to see your drift video posted up here. thank you

Ask any respectable race what they think of drifting like this guy was doing If you understand the concept of oversteer and know how to control it, you can drift. Again, drift is a "ricey" term for oversteer. If you want to practice it, wait till it snows and find a nice open parking lot.
