GTFO with that shit, man.
I've actually have really good experiences when I see other VW drivers on the road.

Most don't notice. The GTI guys and other modded models throw the V and nod. Though, I haven't come a bagged base Rabbit yet .

What was this thread about again? Wait I have a golf R?

OP is you can get past the price, its a awesome car. Only VW and other cars guys will know what it is. One dude in a GTI noticed me. If you say that you have a low torque problem then you wont mind that nothing happens until 3k rpm.

You know, I wish I could go into a thread and not see a certain member keep poking the fire. For one, every thread he posts in eventually becomes derailed, which entirely unacceptable and annoying. How hard is it to keep you opinions to yourself until asked?

We have a great community of people from all walks of life and all different styles and tastes, and no ones opinion is more right than someone else. That is what is so greatly admired by everyone here and on other forums is our sense of camaraderie and welcoming atmosphere. Stop abusing it. If you're going to be a prick to everyone then you can leave, because that's not the kind of behavior we like to exude on this forum.

I can only hope this can be handled with some maturity, but sadly I'm not very optimistic on that, as it hasn't been seen in the past.

Now, lets get this thread back on track.

I would love to see a Golf R tested with the APR Stage 1 upgrade.

That thing must haul ass. Have to figure sub-5 seconds to 60 and mid-13s in the quarter?

Sounds about right, though it probably won't do sub-5 seconds 0-60. Around 5 is my bet.

Any chance you would consider a GTI and throwing the money you saved into mods? The only thing you wouldn't be able to match the Golf R with is the AWD. Unless AWD is a necessity for you, then ignore the crazy talk.

The AWD IS the main point of R.

I know. I'm just wondering if it's worth the $8K+ difference in price to the OP for it.

Dang. Didn't the difference between a fully loaded GTI and R is +$8k.

I thought it was like $4k difference. $8k difference is pretty crazy.

It all depends on which options you go with and if you're looking at a 2 door or a 4 door. So "+$8k" is exaggerating it a bit but it gets close to that number for the 4 Doors.

2 Door GTI w/autobahn package: $30,000
4 Door GTI w/sun roof+navigation: $28,500

Base 2 Door Golf-R: $34,000 w/sun roof+navigation: $35,500
4 Door Golf-R: $36,000

I'm not sure how it is elsewhere but in IL there are certified VW dealers that will install APR parts and everything will still be covered under warranty. That was however limited to stage 2 upgrades (from what I remember the sales person telling me).

What if the owner blows up the engine with the APR tune that was installed by the dealership? Would the dealership cover the warranty work? Just curious.

^^ They would cover it in the same manner if an owner blew a stock engine.

It varies on the situation....the dealer will always look into the "why" and "how" the engine blew.

I'd rather get an EVO with a much superior AWD system than this 35k toaster.

Reasons why people complain about ride quality in a performance car:
a) back problems
b) too old
c) have a vagina

Keep in mind you're also paying for an engine that makes almost 50 more horsepower and about the same in torque from the factory. People who don't want to deal with warranty issues can opt for the Golf R, and tuners have better components to work with - stronger internals, bigger turbo, etc.

I got smoked by one them kids that had an r32. The VW mod community is a pretty solid/cool community, got a chance to learn little more about the vr6 and plethora of exhaust mods.

I like the Golf-R, but:
-Weak AWD system
-Watered-down EU version (springs, tune, taillights, seats, etc)
-2013 GTI on the horizon

Ease of tuning. You can squeeze out a ton of power with OEM reliability and relatively little money.
