Might be trading in for a Golf R

Im looking into getting something more fun to drive. The Golf R really caught my eye as its a sophisticated fun car that is not really aimed only at unmarried people so to speak . I know its in a total different class then my TL but my TL is not really like every other TL in here. I have a constant low end torque issue with it and cant figure out what is really happening. I tried a lot of stuff which improved but i dont think its there where it should be. So its very boring to drive even regularly.

I'd pay a nice amount if someone could fix my car but i dont think its ever gonna happen.

I love driving and im just not enjoying this car. Its very hard to cut the los but better then put up with something that bothers me so much.

I think you should look at a GTI instead. If you are seriously considering an R, you should also check out the WRX STi. More money, but a way better buy!

I am thinking..

Not enjoying the TL anymore
Used to drive a heavy sedan
Never tasted a fast and hatchback small car before
Loves driving

You know after making couple lefts and rights on a light traffic and filling small gaps with that R... you will never look back

STI is a good choice also but.... ughh not sure..

Well STI is old now, deffinatly no way for a brand new...
If you are a crazy modding guy under the hood, then STI is good of course but R is rare and new and still has turbo 260 HP

Yeahhh R !!!

I dont mind the traction control. I like spirited driving but i dont need to slide around. I need something fun and sophisticated. STI or Evo are good cars but not for my personality. I really like the look of the golf R, it has more headroom then my acura TL, im 6.4 and it feels great. The interior is really nice, from the shifter to the steering wheel, everything feels great. Its faster then my TL and has AWD. My friend used to have a GTI vr6 and cars after that which were much more expensive but he always says that the vr6 was one of the most fun cars drive...

Sounds like you have already made your decision, I personally think it is the best out of those 3 cars. It is definately the best "put-together". It is much more comfortable and luxurious.

It's the most all around turbocharged hatch in the market. Go for it!

I would personally get a EVO X or STi Sedan over it, but it's completely up to each person's taste. You can't really go wrong with these fun little cars.

No rush.... wait for a GTI 2013.

If you have to move now, I would get a low option 135i rather than a Golf R. Same price ballpark. >35K$ for a Golf 4-cyl. sounds like a bad idea to me.

I think you said it best when you said you aren't enjoying the TL anymore.

I don't know if it's because you have an auto TL but I think you will enjoy the R more, especially since it only comes in a 6-speed.

Ive never been a big fan of vw's, but i know they have come a long ways in the last 10 years when it comes to performance. Im sure it wont be long before companies like APR have a way to remove the undesireable stuff like traction control and up the power at the same time.

sorry for being ignorant, but how is VW in the reliability department? I know german cars have come a ways but just a comparison? I'd love to get a GTI or even the R but the random things with reliability kinda scare me off...

The Rs max torque comes at 28-3000 rpm. I have only been driving it for a day. You will miss some luxuries from your TL. The back seat is not that big. It is real fun to drive. I haven't put my car through the paces so the TSC is not an issue yet.

The latest Golf R does come with a turbocharged four banger.

But the point is that 95% God Saintor always loves to worship his uber smooth BMW Inline 6 that's in his whatever 3 series. He thinks that engine is so godly that none of these crappy four bangers should not be even considered in the same discussion.

What prompts you, young imbecile, to just throw uncalled for remarks just because you don't agree with my personal opinion? You are obviously a hopeless moron. No future for you.

The superb 3.2L (as another poster mentioned) was a fine piece of engine. BTW, in the R32 (not direct injection I believe), it got only 1mpg worse city than the Golf R 2.0T.

Have you driven one yet? Some dealers are more likely to let you drive a base 2dr if the have one.

Golf R seems like a great car, but it's overpriced compared to what else is out there IMO. As well, there's rumours that the next GTI is going to pack more ponies than the current gen.

Golf R can be goosed to 300hp by APR fairly easily IIRC.

Makes it a no-brainer vs the Subie or Mitsu.

I called up the local dealership already going to talk some numbers. Cant drive one as they are all spoken for. Its a 3 to 4 months wait to get it. Gotta convince the wife too. She is for selling the tl because im not happy with the car but she doesnt see me in a golf )

I test drove a gti manual with my dad, that was couple of months back and i just wanted to take it home. I had so much fun driving it especially since the sales guy let us drive it by ourselves. I can only imagine how much more fun the R would be... Its a really good allarounder. Being awd makes it that much better.

I think i really want this car...

I am a long time fan of VW GTI's, I bought a new VR6 back in 99 for 19k, loved it. I like the R, but for me, golfs and 35k+ just don't go together. The low price was a big part of why it was such a great car. The car might be great, but the value just isn't there for me. I'd rather spend 35-40k on a preowned higher end car, but of course I am not 22 anymore.

I'd love to drive one though!
