If you think that you have had a lot of problems with your TL, wait until you own a VW. While I do miss some performance aspects of my previous VW's , I don't miss the constant heartache of something always breaking prematurely with my car. We have owned 9 VW / Audi's in my immediate family over the years and all of them were bought new and properly maintained. Every one of them had numerous minor issues coupled with a major failures while they were relatively new (less than 5 years old). Maybe we were very unlucky and got 9 lemons in a row?

If my 02 S4 was reliable, I don't think I would have ever sold that car. It was a blast to drive with twin turbos, quattro, and 6MT but maintenance was a PITA. Good luck with your search and do as much research as possible before making a move. Ask some more VW owners about their experiences and learn as much as you can about them.

If you wannted to be presented as more mature Golf R

otherwise go for STI/EVO more boy racerish but still ohh soo sweet!

You can't go wrong with any. I'd choose golf R or STI. I dunno though

VW decided to put this engine in the new R because it outperforms that VR6 engine. Why would VW do such a thing if the VR6 was totally fine?

And you know EVO comes with a 4 banger, yeah?

Don't get me wrong the Golf R is a great car, but im not into the looks of hatches.
Thats the only thing that kept me out of a Mazdaspeed3, otherwise I would have one and no TL.

I don't know if this was directed at me but yea I do know that new engine outperforms a vr6. That's not what I am trying to say at all. I am saying that, I personally wouldn't pay 47 000$ CDN for a golf R, and if I were to spend that kind of money on a VW, it'd have to VR6 CC. I just personally don't see VW to be that kind of brand where they ask that much for a car like that.

The Golf R makes the most sense because its the best transition from your luxury sedan to a quite luxurious sports hatch.

I couldn't live with either the STI or EVO's interior (although the STI is little easier on the eyes than the Mitsu interior) on a daily basis. All you have to do is take one look @ the Golf's interior and its a no brainer.

Golf R all the way

All he has to do is test drive a STi or EVO and its a no brainer.

The typical buyers of these hot rockets don't really care about the interior design. If Subaru and Mitsu really want to step up their interior design/material with the existing performance set up, it would probably cost more. It's all about the bang for the buck factor for these cars.

But I do agree that Golf R has the most matured look in its segment. The build quality is amazing.

Of course, but I don't think the TS is a typical buyer of hot rockets. I mean he's coming from a TL after all. The transition to the golf would be a lot more suited

In terms of performance yes the STI/EVO are better bang for the buck, but the Golf can hold its own, and I would go as far to say it could match the driving experience of both but with more refinement (not that I've test driven any golfs before, but I have plenty with STI and EVOs)

This.

For refinement mixed with great performance go with VW.

The other two are far from refined.
Perfomance? Sure, but not much in the way of refinement.

Like I said in this thread somewhere, yes, the Golf R is the most matured one in the segment. There's no doubt. It looks and feels freaking awesome inside. I love it too. But it just pushes the pricing a tad too far. That's all I'm saying.

Everyone has different tastes. OP should just test drive everything and get the one that satisfies his taste the most.

What about a 2012 Mazdaspeed3? I bet you can get a wicked price on one, and with the money you safe, easily mod it to 300hp and still have money in the bank:

Never liked mazda's.... Its kinda hard going from an acura to a VW. Might be just a stupid thing in my head. Some of you guys mentioned that i will lose some luxury by switching to the Golf R. My Tl doesnt ride like a luxury car and i dont use anything inside that i would necessarily call luxury. From what i see the golf R has everything that the TL has and some more, maybe not the class factor. But driving one is so much fun compared to the TL, its like night and day. It feels light, nimble and you feel the pull. The TL just feels heavy, no matter what mod i added to it...

In terms of looks a bone stock TL doesnt look better then a golf R. A moded TL very likely but ive already seen nice pictures of a moded R.

I just wanna have fun driving .... I already see myself going places a lot more ))
