Midsize SUV with 4WD
Midsize SUV with 4WD
My little brother is heading off to snow land and is need of a mid-size 4WD SUV (he is stuck on an SUV, so no cars or trucks). We are going to look at the 4Runner, the FJ, and the RDX. Anything else y'all can recommend? What about the baby Lincoln (MKX?)?
Hmm....I only mention this cause you brought up the lincoln and thought it might be in the budget. Have you seen the new X6 from BMW??? It's like nothing I've ever seen before. It's kind of a cross between a sedan and a midsize SUV. Not sure if it has 4WD...it's probably an option if nothing else, but just thought I would throw that out there for you.

The X6 was a suggestion. Not sure if your reasonings for disliking the X6 is pure visual, brand, or performance, but whatever. I honestly don't know ANYTHING about them. I just happened to see them a few days ago on BMW's website. Thought it might be worth mentioning.

What does he need it for exactly?

There are many options.

Looking around the $30-40K range-new or used (doesn't matter). This is going to replace his Goat as his primary driver. Gas mileage is a concern, but not a major (as in nothing like 12 average).
The only must have features are power door locks, windows, etc.

I like FJs but their MPG aren't so great... it's not far from the "12mpg" you mentioned
I've been inside a RDX, I actually don't mind it...
4Runners are built great, but styling wise it's kinda dated.
How about a Murano or a used FX35?

heres a sport one under 40k plus its CPO if he likes the styling of those i say check them out.
I like the FJ (though somewhat small and expect to replace the front glass...often), the 4Runner is also a solid choice and I love the GM Lamda chassis (Outlook/Enclave/Acadia). I will add one VERY frugal choice to the mix, the Hyundia Santa Fe, the Limited w/premium package can be had for just of $24k and is rated for 24 HWY mpg. That leaves a good chunk to save or for a summer weekend car/bike.
